List, I have some questions about the notorial records/archives at NOPL. Is there any index of those documents other than the name of the Notary? Are those records, or an index of those records online? I'm in Lafayette. The State Archives can produce a copy of a document if I can give them the VE number, whatever that is. Would someone who knows about this, tell me how to access that information? Thanks, Cheramie

You may have meant to say the City Archives, rather than the State Archives. The V numbers are New Orleans Public Library microfilm call numbers (where the City Archives is kept). The State Archives has only a few reels of New Orleans Notarial Records and those do not have call numbers starting with V. The Mormons have microfilmed many of the New Orleans notarial records. You can order copies through your local Family History Center. Unfortunately, I know of no comprehensive index. You have to know the notary. There is only one index online that I know of. It's to the French colonial period records and you can find it here: http://www.notarialarchives.org/research.htm Judy Riffel Baton Rouge ----- Original Message ----- From: "Cheramie Breaux" <chamoo@cox.net> To: <LAORLEAN@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, April 09, 2008 3:33 PM Subject: [LAORLEAN] notorial archives > List, I have some questions about the notorial records/archives at > NOPL.
