This is probably a dumb question but I'm just going to go ahead and embarrass myself anyway: I've been told that Bossier City is pronounce Bo-zjer or bō′·zhər [not exactly sure how to spell this so you know how it sounds. So I hope you get the idea] Now, my question is.... if the city is pronounced bō′·zhər does that mean that the surname - Bossier - is also pronounced the same way??? I had thought is was pronounced [so it sounded French] Bos see yay Since this is one of my surnames, figured I'd better learn how to pronounce it correctly!!! Renée
Sorry -- I sent this message before I was finished with it. So, here is the complete message. As far as I can tell, the way to pronounce Bossier City is Bo-jour City or Bo-shure City. But, I wouldn't assume that's the way you would pronounce your family name. In Louisiana, it seems nothing is pronounced the way you might think it would be. For instance, we have a city just southeast of here that is spelled Cloutierville. They pronounce it "Clutchie-ville." Normal French pronunciation would be Clou-ti-a-ville. It is named after a French family, and I'm not sure how the family pronounces the name. My advice is, don't assume anything from the Louisiana pronunciation.
