I went to the State Library website and could not find obituaries. >From the website of the state Library http://www.state.lib.la.us/ Under Search, click on Articles and Newspapers You will have to log in with your library card number Scroll down until you get to Newsbank There will be several Louisiana newspapers listed. It is not just obituaries, it is full articles that appeared in the newspapers - minus pictures. You will have to search for the names you want. Times Picayune can be accessed from NewsBank. If you are located in a major citty in Lousiana and have a library card you can go on your local library site to "Database" or some name like that then enter your library card number in the dialog box then select select "Statewide Databases" about half way down you will click on Newsbank. NewsBank has index Times Picahune since 1/1/1989 and Baton Rouge Advocate from 1/1/1986. Earlier Times Picayune has been index by the New Orleans Public Library. Go to http://neworleanspubliclibrary.org/obits/obits.htm. Obituary File had complete coverage from 1837-1972. New Orleans GenWeb Project picks up when the library Index above leaves off. Go to http://www.usgwarchives.net/la/orleans/_tpi.htm. Jefferson Parish Library has index of Times Picayune http://www.jefferson.lib.la.us/obit/ObitSearch.asp for the period of January, 1972 through 1978.
