Gene, Thanks for the advise. I already tried to enhance the photo as you said. I e-mailed the Times Picayune this morning to see if they just by chance have the original, or have other suggestions. I was just happy to find it. They would not have any original picture. The newspaper it was in would be the only place to find the original picture - unless it is at a library archive - and from 1917, it is doubtfull it would still exist. You can select the area of the photo from the page and download it and try enhancing it via a photo shop type program. It seems my grandfather was one of five survivors when a U-boat torpedoed his ship, theHealdton off Rotterdam. My grandmother is seen in the photo?looking at my dad, then at age 14, as she was told of his survival. ? My question is, does anyone know if the newspaper keeps on file, their original photos?? ?
