    3. Hello, I can hardly wait for the New Orleans Picayune. I was fortunate to have members of my family that moved to Biloxi about 1900, the Biloxi newspaper goes through 1922. All I can say it is fabulous! 3. Hey, thanks Rita. A kind of goofy thing happened, so I'm very glad for your offer. Capt. Robert McGuinn Davis died in New Orleans 20 February 1830, according to the copy of a card I received from the HNOC. Looks like a headstone transcription. The HNOC made a note on that copy that says 'no obituary found' in their sources, I guess. I would LOVE to have one IF one exists. Now, his son Augustus Davis, died 16 January 1837, aged 38 years. Again, this is one of those copies of a card from the HNOC. He's buried in the same places as his father, Girod Cemetery. However, a nice person emailed and said she's found an obit for Augustus Davis, in the New Orleans Bee...on the date after he died. She sent me a link to see the New Orleans Bee online. She also sent the obit as an attachment, but the print is so screwy I can't read it well. I would love to have a 'readable' copy of that one, too. Have you ever used the NO Bee, online? Well, you get to a list of dates, January 1, and then each day. She said, that she found that obit on the day after he died. He died on the 16th of January, so...I looked at the 17th...when I click that one, the image I get clearly says January 16...so, I went to the next one which, in the list, is the 18th. With that one, I get the 18th. Where is the 17th???? And how did she find it????? Is this clear? :>) So, I'd love to have a copy of Augustus Davis' obit, that I can read. Too much? I'm very happy to repay you for any expense involved. Many, many thanks!!! Many, many thanks!!!! Cheramie

    1. Re: [LAORLEAN] Girod cemetery info
    2. Cheramie, You are in luck. The burial records of the Girod St. Cemetery 1817 - 1930 are on microfilm at the Family History Library. If you have a Fmaily History Center near you (and I am sure you do), you can order the microfilm for about $6 and go through the records yourself. Here is the link to the page on the FHL website that tells you about the film and gives you the call number. The recors are in alphabetical orer: In a message dated 3/29/2008 11:02:29 AM Pacific Daylight Time, chamoo@cox.net writes: Okay, so here comes the questions that lots of other people have asked and I didn't pay attention to... Robert M Davis at his wedding, Baltimore, MD, 1802. His whole family was military, so I assumed he was and got some very tiny, sketchy record, almost nothing, from NARA. But, by the time he was in New Orleans 1813-1815, and about that time discharged/released/retired from the military, he was Major Robert Davis. However, when he died, 15 years after that, he was again, Capt. Davis...listed in the City Directory as a 'sea captain' and owning or running a dry goods store at 19 Royal, cor. Bienville. Would the designation Capt. then mean, just that, that he was a ship's captain? What ship? I seriously doubt he owned a ship. Why else would he reduce the rank back from Major??? 3. Colleen, I have a photo - I believe it is a cabinet card - from Simon Photographers. It is from when they were located across from the Opera House. My memory's a little rusty, but I think that narrows down the time frame because I seem to recall they were not at that location long. I cannot tell you the name of the subject. I have a couple likely suspects, but haven't been able to definitively identify her. I only know that she is one of my maternal female ancestors. Patti in Mississippi

    1. [LAORLEAN] times picayune obit--Surname Courrege
    2. There was an obit for Marie Courrege Rodrigue in the paper a couple of days ago. She died at the age of 103. The obit says her father was from Paris, France and that she is the last of 11 children. I know someone on the list is researching that name. If this obit is of interest to you, contact me off-list and I will mail it to you. Carolyn Tregre

    2. Hi Barbara, Thanks for the offer - maybe. I am looking for two photos from the same photographer, that either use different logos, ifferent names, or different addresses. For example, Lilienthal was listed at 32 Charters in the 1882, in 1883 he was at 121 Canal, in 1890 he was at 137 Canal. If you had a picture with any one of these addresses on it for Lilienthal, you would know an approximate date it was taken, even though Lilienthan was in business for many years.
