    3. Hi Bridgette, Thank you for offering to coordinate this. You might want to send the list to everyone at once. People can each add their information, and then you can cut and paste the returns into one spreadsheet. BTW, all of us might not have the same version of MSExcel. I only have MSExcel97 here at home, but can use MSExcel 2003 at church or school or the library. Others might have the old version as well. Please send me a copy saved to the MSExcel version for 1997 so I can open here. Thanks! Sharon Centanne mrszipp wrote: >Dear List - > >I have started a new Excel Spreedsheet. 3. Linda, Sure has been a while since anyone called me "wonderful person", but that excel sheet was done by me. In fact I probably still have it and would be glad to share it. It was quite an undertaking. Would sure be glad to send it to anyone interested in updating it. It would be a great idea to pass it to everyone and let each person update their own info. That's about the only way to get it done easily. Sending it out to everyone will make it hard to work up and we would be right back to one person trying to add everyones info. 3. Hi Carolyn, I believe the links I included in my message for Julie have the answers to your questions, but, about the slave revolt and Madam Lalaurie's slaves, I tried to phrase it in a way so that readers would know the list I put forth was a list of unrelated events and realize I intended no connection. Sometimes I tend to over-explain...and it's worse than under-explaining. :-) The "slave revolt conspiracy" I mentioned, was a conspiracy only, because the plot was discovered before the revolt took place, so I gather that it was probably neither of the revolts you named. I read that several plantations had slaves who were a part of this particular conspiracy: Bellechasse, Castantato, Mccarty, Laneusse and Bienville plantations. But, I've just started researching this family for a page on the Old New Orleans site, and I don't have as much knowledge about the family as someone who's been doing indepth research on it for a family tree, so I didn't know about the revolt and its rumored connection to Madame Lalaurie. I mentioned Madame Lalaurie on this list of "notables" only because she was a member of the Macarty family. I'm sorry I didn't do a good job of explaining the two Augustin's, but the answer to your questions about both can be found here on the NOPL site: http://nutrias.org/info/louinfo/admins/macarty.htm Here are all of the links I included, so Julie and others could read more of what I've found, so far: http://nutrias.org/info/louinfo/admins/macarty.htm http://boards.ancestry.com/thread.aspx?mv=flat&m=755&p=surnames.lopez http://www.metairie.com/history/racetrack.htm http://www.nola.com/forums/townhall/index.ssf?artid=234341 I hope this helps clear everything up! 3. Dear List - I have started a new Excel Spreedsheet. I have been pasting it around to the memebers who would like to add their names (insert them in order), area and email address of the name of the person who submit it. After they have completed it they pass it back to me and I save it and pass it to the next person who requested it. When it looks like I have everyones I'll contact either Cat or Colleen to find out where would be the best place be to have it post for everyone. I found it to be easy if everyone listed their own names. If you would like to have your names add please send me your email address and I'll send it to you as soon as possible. 3. Hi Sharon and Greg, The only place I can find a Richard Beatty in a naval capacity in the Civil War was a Richard Beatty who joined the 1st Regiment NY Marine Artillery, which recruited in Chicago, Illinois (This was right over the river from Clinton, Iowa). This Richard Beatty deserted around 1862. Many in this unit left, and the unit was disbanded in 1863. Several of the marines joined revenue cutter units because the profitability was better. If Richard joined a naval outfit and ended up in New Orleans, the probability was that he would not have used his real name due to the prior desertion, and it is unclear whether he would have joined a revenue cutter unit or the navy. However, his obit claimed that he was part of the navy in New Orleans, and he did indeed end up in New Orleans by around 1868 but possibly sooner. Something got Richard Beatty to New Orleans and made him stay. Growing up in Iowa and Illinois, and having your family move to New York for the most part, wouldn't lead one to think that Richard would end up in New Orleans. So there must be some other factor. Do you know of any revenue cutter ships operating with the fleet in the Gulf of Mexico, especially in the New Orleans/Mississippi River area? This is a huge mystery for me. Richard's obit states he was a life long member of the Roman Catholic Church, yet, I can't find a marriage cert for him, or a baptismal cert for his son Richard Thomas Beatty. I may learn more if an obit existed for "Mary," who is rumored in the family to have been Richard Beatty's first wife in New Orleans. 3. Thanks, Kathleen, for your response. I personally can't see a connection between Catholicism and adoption. As you say, other religions were also involved with helping children whose biological families were no longer in the picture. I agree with you about researching everyone related either by blood or adoption to our ancestors. I was surprised to read in a book about N.O. families that my great-grandparents had an adopted daughter. Since I'd never heard this, I began researching her. So far, I haven't learned a lot, but I'll keep on. To me, her story is important, not only for its own sake, but for what I'll learn about my great-grandparents.
