Thank you, Norm for all those links for pictures and maps Of New Orleans. You are the best! I appreciate all the information you generously share with this list. As far as the 35 Galvez St address goes, all I have is on an 1864 death certificate for Paul Nicholas Emery, age 9, listed as Paul (etc) SULPICE on NOLA death list. Frederick Sulpice (my gg grandfather) came to America ca 1860. His Dec. 1900 death cert. lists him as native of NOLA 40 years. He married Therese Caroline 'Blanche' (nee 5 B* names!) (widow of Emil Emery) probably between 1860-1864. So it seems that when Paul died the family was living on Galvez ST. but I do not know if it was North or South Galvez. Blanche's first husband was Emil Emery and I found where they came into New York. He was a teacher. I have found a lot of info on Sulpice family in NOLA. Can't find the connection between Victor Eugene Sulpice and Frederick Louis Sulpice b. August 1839 in Paris. Victor Eugene was part of Mardi Gras preparations committee. Frederick was a member of Firemen Association and Knights of Pythias. I also tried changing the Sulpice to Lulpice and that worked. Picked up another tidbit. Now I want to run the name with a T.......because I notice how much the S looks like a fancy T in some of the documents. And my wonderful hubby wonders how I can possible be having fun finding dead people at three am! Carol Florida
Dear Betty Thanks for your e-mail. The Kern in my direct line is my g-g-g-grandmother, Magdalena Kern. She was born in Bavaria in January 1837 and died in NO on 23 March 1919. It seems likely that she arrived in New Orleans in the late 1850s. She married Georg(e) Casimir Keller, probably sometime soon after she arrived (although there is a possibility that he actually returned to Bavaria to marry her and then bring her back to the US). Georg is shown in various city directories and census as a grocer: in 1875, in St Claude Street, on the southeast corner of Clouet Street; his death certificate gives his residence as corner Claiborne and St Ferdinand Street (he died in 1882). Unfortunately, I have no information on any of Magdalena's family so while I am keen to find other Kerns in this line, I have thus far been unsuccessful. But I will keep the name Kron on my files and perhaps, if I can ever find out anything more about Magdalena, there might be a fit. Sending this message again - for some reason, I've been having problems sending messages sent from my home system. Lorraine Dear Judy The Eisler that connects to my family tree is Lena (Carolina) Eisler, born 6 Feb 1884; died 13 November 1968; she married my g-g-grandmother's brother, George Keller, on 29 April 1917. George was born Sept 1868 (or possibly 1866) in New Orleans; he died on 17 July 1946. I have record of one child only born to Lena and George (although there could well have been more)-Magdalena Keller, born 1920. George is buried in St Roch cemetery. I am not sure about his wife. Is there any chance that Lena/Carolina Eisler is connected to your Charles? Thanks for the quick reply. I have fixed my bookmark. It is going to be a difficult adjustment to this secession from USGenWeb - it was so easy to find everything from that single address. I am pretty tired of seeing "commerce" muck up our friendly little genie world. Dee, et al. - Is there a new address for the Alphabetical Birth Index? The link on the Orleans Parish archives page no longer works. Kathleen in Connecticut by way of New Orleans
This is just another reminder from my email on March 23rd. US Gen Web Louisiana Orleans Parish Archives has moved to http://www.usgwarchives.org/la/orleans.htm Jefferon Parish moved to http://www.usgwarchives.org/la/jefferso.htm To see a list of all of Louisiana check out the State Archives List now at http://www.usgwarchives.org/la/lafiles.htm There are still some links broken, but I am working on them. I have two computers going at one time. The Laptop is uploading the rest of the cemetery pics. This computer is working on links and uploading the pages as they are fixed and linked. Also for those with the spreadsheet and roll call, check out the Louisiana Family Groups Sheets at .... http://www.fgs-project.com/louisiana/ Anyone can add to the project and this is a way to keep roll calls. There is also a link to this page on the Orleans Parish Main Page. This is something we are NOT allowed to add to the archive pages. So the group sheets might be a better way to go. Hi, I am now up to 2 pm today in reading emails. When I get caught up to the present, I will give you more details about my ideas. Joan
I am only getting through the messages about the spreadsheet through 7:15 last night. I now have to speak up. In the last twenty minutes, I have taken the message RHB sent and formed it into a spreadsheet. I know that I am one person in this group that, given the input in a set pattern could very quickly (4 to 5 hours) produce a usable spreadsheet. Armand Lanusse, the free man of color who was editor of the book of poetry Les Cenelles was, according to Desdunes, born in 1812, but there's no information about his parentage. You can bet, however, that he and the white Creole Paul Lanusse were related somehow. That would be a good research project for somebody. The Macartys of color have been keeping me busy--there were so many of them! Here's what I have on Celeste Macarty Lanusse: Benjamin Latrobe noted in his journal that Madame Lanusse, wife of the president of the Bank of Louisiana, had whipped a negress to death, and treated another so cruelly that she died a short time after. Mr. _____, a principal merchant of this place, stated the facts to the Grand Jury, but it was hushed up from respect to the ladys husband. This would have been Delphines cousin, Marie Celeste, daughter of Jean Baptiste Macarty, who was married to Paul Lanusse. Lanusse was appointed as a director of the Bank of Louisiana in 1804. The cruelty of Marie Celeste Macarty Lanusse is born out in one of the letters to Henri Ste. Gme from his plantation overseer, in which he wrote that Madame Widow Lanusse is accused of the same crime, and if [the mob] had been able to discover any property belonging to her, she would have had the same fate as Madame Lalaurie. > [Original Message] > From: Cat <ambicat@charter.net> > To: <laorlean@rootsweb.com> > Date: 04/08/2008 7:09:02 PM > Subject: [LAORLEAN] McCarty Plantation/Lanusse > > So, how is this Lanusse related to Armand?

I went to the LSU Library web page that you cited, and read the section on slave revolts and insurrections. As you said, there is a paragraph about the attempted revolt of 1812 on the "Bellechasse, Castantato, McCarty and Lanusse, and Bienville plantations." It cites some court documents, which I'll try to look at when I return to New Orleans, and it cites some books and articles for further reading. When they speak of the "Macarty and Lanusse" plantation, I wonder if they mean the plantation of Delphine's cousin, Celeste Macarty, and Celeste's husband, Paul Lanusse. But anyway, if this is supposed to be the slave revolt in which Delphine's mother was killed, it doesn't work. Madame Macarty, nee Marie Jeanne Lerable, definitely died in 1807. I have her funeral record: Funeral of Dona Maria Juana Lerable, February 26, 1807, St. Louis Cathedral/White Persons, unnumbered volume for 1803-1807, part 2, p. 155, act 410, Archdiocesan Archives. Celeste Macarty Lanusse was also supposed to have been a cruel slave mistress. From several documented sources I've heard that she killed at least one of her slaves. > [Original Message] > From: Nancy <nancybrister621@bellsouth.net> > To: <laorlean@rootsweb.com> > Date: 04/08/2008 4:46:55 PM > Subject: Re: [LAORLEAN] McCarty Plantation: Carolyn > > I read about the slave revolt conspiracy at the site below.
