Hi, I don't know if this is what you saw, but there s a part of the city up near the Garden District that used to be called Jefferson. Maybe you are confusing the city and the parish. >From our resident map and street expert, Norm: Orleans Parish was an original parish when Louisiana became a state in 1812. In 1825, Jefferson Parish was created from part of Orleans Parish. A map showing the changes in Louisiana's parish boundaries can be found here: http://www.mylouisianagenealogy.com/la_maps.htm As New Orleans expanded upriver, communities along the river that originally were in Jefferson Parish were added to New Orleans (and Orleans Parish). The boundaries of the city and the parish are coterminous. Dee will have to answer that. I've never used any of the search engines. Penny From: "Judy Fisher" <jzamboni@cox.net> Hi List, Were are the old obits listed? Before you could put in a surname and you would get all the births, deaths and obits with that surname. Thanks for your help. Hi Colleen, Could you please put this note on the LAORLEANS List serve for me? Please note, although we now have more than 1.3 million vital records indexed online and will soon have the Orleans Births online, the Louisiana State Archives Vital Records Online Index is indeed not complete nor finalized. This is why we have not made a "Public Announcement" in this regard. Yet, Ms. Riffel's comments are not entirely true either. Please feel free to send me any comments or questions regarding the website as it is a "work in progress" at this point and we do not want misinformation going out regarding such and wish to assist you to the best of our abilities. What we hope to do in the future and are doing as of current is once we get the yearly shipment of public vital records which are the Orleans Marriages over 50 years old, Orleans/Statewide Deaths over 50 years old and Orleans Births over 100 years old such as the current Orleans Marriages 1957, we will individually put them into our database to create an index which will go live online, then microfilm the records for archival storage and access within the library. Again if you have any questions regarding such, please come to the source..i.e..the Louisiana State Archives staff or myself. Thank You, Bill Stafford Director of Reference Services Louisiana Secretary of State Archives Division Phone (225)922-1196 email:bstafford@sos.louisiana.gov _www.sos.louisiana.gov_ (http://www.sos.louisiana.gov/) **************Wondering what's for Dinner Tonight? Colleen, I believe it was Ordinance #9411 in July 1894, when the numbers and many street names were changed. People continued to use the old numbers along with the new numbers for some years thereafter, so knowing the EXACT year of the photograph might be difficult. Presumably the earliest date of the photograph was July 1894 and the latest within a year or so after 1894. St. Vincent No. 2 I was thinking the tomb may have Catherina maiden name. Because the card has Mrs. J.J., Gullung. Norm, I received an e mail from Linda at St. Vincent cemetery. She sent me a copy of the record card for the tomb.It list some of the children no names for them. Also some adults.Catherina is listed as Mrs. J.J. Gullung. Jacob is not listed on the card. The card shows the date the vault was purchased 6-11-1892 by Mrs. J.J. Gullung. Jacob died 5-2_-1892. So no maiden name for Catherina listed on the card. Do you know if anyone has done a record like Dee B. has on St. Roch cemetery? Thanks for your help.
