    3. You will never be sent a copy of the original handwritten act. It would be too hard on the bound registers to put them on a copy machine. And remember that these sacramental acts were written in French or Spanish, that the handwriting is sometimes nearly illegible, and that the pages are discolored and the ink bleeding through from the other side makes them very hard to read. I do think that the sacramental registers have been microfilmed, and maybe if you asked, they would make you a print off the microfilm. But actually, I've never even seen a microfilm reader-printer there. The problem with the handwritten certificates is that, in accordance with Archdiocesan policy, they don't include details like race and legitimacy, which ARE in the originals. At present, the Archives is only open to scholars, not to people working on their own family genealogy. But I was told that the new archivist is going to change that policy and let everybody in. The problem is where will they put all those researchers? There's room for one person to work in the archivist's office--the last time I was there they had to set me up at a table out in the hall. And who's going to get the books out of the vault for them? The only people available to do that are Janet, who handles ALL of the archives business, and Jack, the volunteer. This is very different from the Notarial Archives, which has a big staff and a research room with tables that is open to the public. 3. Usually takes one to two weeks for a response. Did you send the request to 7887 Walmsley Avenue? That is the current address since Katrina, or at least it was 6 weeks ago when I requested baptismal certificates. I received the certificates one week after the request. --- On Tue, 6/10/08, PaulaRandazzo@aol.com <PaulaRandazzo@aol.com> wrote: > From: PaulaRandazzo@aol.com <PaulaRandazzo@aol.com> > Subject: [LAORLEAN] Archdiocese of New Orleans > To: laorlean@rootsweb.com > Date: Tuesday, June 10, 2008, 2:49 PM > I wrote the Department of Sacramental Registers / > Archdiocese of New Orleans > some time ago. 3. Where did you send your letter and check? The correct address is Archdiocesan Archives, 1100 Chartres, New Orleans (the sacramental registers are actually kept in the cold-storage vault at 7887 Walmsley). If you want to check on your request, call Janet Adams at 504-529-2651, or e-mail her at jadams@mail.archdiocese-no.org. A wonderful volunteer named Jack Belsom comes in several days a week and works on all the requests they've received. So if you haven't had any response, your letter has probably gotten misdirected. 3. Only Louisiana calls it succession. It is probate, right of succeeding. When someone dies, the family opens succession on deceased property. etc. Sally > From: MMccre8814@aol.com> Date: Mon, 9 Jun 2008 10:48:51 -0400> To: laorlean@rootsweb.com> Subject: Re: [LAORLEAN] LAORLEAN Digest, Vol 3, Issue 240> > What is a succession?> > Marian> > > **************> Get trade secrets for amazing burgers. 1. [LAORLEAN] index to successions for 1850
    2. Carolyn Long
    3. I found the index to successions at NUTRIAS for 1805-1846, and I thought there was also a published index to the later successions available at the desk at NOPL, but here I am stuck in Washington DC. I need a succession for Marie Louise Pauline Blanque, died September 10, 1850, in Biarritz, France. Her sisters authorized the family attorney back in New Orleans, Theodore Bailly Blanchard, to open Pauline's succession. If it's online, will somebody please give me the URL. Thanks so much. --- Carolyn Long --- carolynlong@earthlink.net

The recent transfer of servers has changed many URL's on LAGenWeb and USGenWeb and other sites like idreamof.com . Can anyone tell me the correct URL's for Obits located on the following page? http://www.idreamof.com/death/la/orleans.html AND from this page on LAGenWeb Orleans Parish: http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~laorlean/bmd/bmd.htm The following URL: Transcribed birth certificates for births between 1790-1899 can be found (free of charge) at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/la/orleans/birth-cert.htm This URL is bad, as well. I am looking for an obit in 1898. Other obit resources: Louisiana Statewide Obituary look up volunteer, mamacolby@..., "Dee C." at the URL http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~obitl/volla.html?cj=1&o_xid=00\ 01177077&o_lid=0001177077#links There is also the online collection at the NOPL http://obits.gno.lib.la.us/scripts/minisa.dll/5370?NEW which offered many obits for that date, but not the specific obit. There was another Perez-Gonzales, but the date was too current. I found the same obit (the wrong Perez Gonzales) at The Obituary Times. More about that project below. There is the USGenWeb Project Louisiana Obit Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.org/obits/la/obitsla.htm The Obituary Times needs transcription volunteers for the following newspapers in Louisiana. http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~obituary/ Abbeville Meridional - The Abbeville Meridional - Vermilion LA - Adopt me! - Alexandria TT - Alexandria Town Talk - Alexandria LA - Adopt me! 3. Norm, I sent off for some more of the Gullung children's marriage certificates. No maiden name listed for the Mother Catherina. One had no maiden name and the other had Catherina Gullung. The only one so far was Mary M. Gullung who married Emile Mansuy. It had Catherina Scharber list for the Mother. So I am still looking for the correct speling of Jacob Gullung and Catherine S______ who were married at St. Paul's church. Just wanted to let you know how it is going on that last name for Catherina S____.
