Lynette, did you see the response from Judy Riffel? ""It is not the name of a church. He is chanoine of the cathedral. Judy Riffel Baton Rouge"" I can't even find a definition for that onine, at least not one in english. You could be right. I"m seeing not that this was from the STATE Archives. Yes, Judy is correct. It looks like chanoine, now that I can see the marriage cert. I found some info online in Wikipedia after I did a search for the word chanoine and it is someone in the clergy attached to a church. The person who signed as the chanoine must have been the priest. However, I can't decipher his name.

Dear LAORLEAN I just sent out 159 copies of my updated Roll Call documents to the people whose email addresses are in the document. Here is the text of the message enclosed with them. Dear List, This is perhaps my last draft before publication. I am down to five email addresses that I have not found. They are: [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] Rather than having them in the document, or rather than losing the history of having them in the docoment, I have added the word ADMIN to their personal name, and used my own email name as the way to get back to the data. If you find something you want to research, you can contact me, and I can point you to some detail of what was formerly correct information, but is no longer correct. I have this great theory that every one of my emails is going to go through this time. I can only hope. The document now has more than 2900 lines. Maybe we could have a holiday tomorrow, and call it Labor Day. To those, who are not in the list yet, you can still join. If you want to see what it is about, I can send you the current version. Basically, it is a cross reference from the email addresses of the researcher in the document to the surnames that they are researching. Therefore, you can see all of the other people interested in your "names." I think I am going to try for a publication date of September 10. As far as I can see, I am very, very close. Also, I had thought [email protected] was a nondeliverable and changed my mind. I had been right in the first place. She was Larie G. Tedesco in the name column. Anyone know anything about her? I just got a note about a death of Sherill Delahoussayes. I'm glad someone told us. I sent a note of response for getting the information. Have a good day tomorrow, Monday, Joan

Cheramie, Your marriage record is here: http://freepages.misc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~neworleans/geo_loretta_marriage/ To me it doesn’t appear to be from the Archdiocese, but I believe they could tell you what it says. Are you certain it's a Catholic marriage certificate? If so, the archdiocese can tell you for certain which church if you contact them with the information. There is also an Episcopal church in N.O. called Christ Church Cathedral.
I'm trying to determine the name of the church on a catholic marriage record. It appears to say xxxx Cathedral. This is the list of churches Jan found at that time but it doesn't look like these. I'm not going to send the picture of the document to the list, but if someone is willing to take a look I can send it directly to them. I have a list of churchs that are listed in the Arch.of NO Sac. Records, they are: St. Bernard Church, St. Bernard St. Charles Borromeo Church, Destrehan St. John the Baptist Church, Edgard St. Louis Church (Cathedral), New Orleans St. Mary, New Orleans (Chartres Street) People say "High Maintenance!" like it's a bad thing.
Here is the URL for the free newspaper archives. http://freenewspaperarchives.us/south.aspx and if you click on the Louisana one you will be here: http://louisdl.louislibraries.org/cdm4/browse.php?CISOROOT=/LSU_LNP Looks like about 71 entries. If there's an English version of the page, it is usually the one right before or right after the French one. So, if you still have the ref it won't take long to find it. That has been my experience also. It is too bad that they don't have a search engine. There is another free website which has some Louisiana newspaper articles....something like Newspaper archives...which I stumbled onto one time on-line. I can't remember the exact URL and I'm on my laptop right now, but will look for that later. You might try googling for it.
