Hello, I am new to this list, and would love some assistance. My GG-grandfather, Jacob Born was born in Germany, in some censuses it says Baden, on his Naturalization papers it says Hesse Darmstadt. His 1st son, my G-grandfather, was Edward Augustus Born, b 7 August 1855. Both the marriage and the baptism occurred at the Lafayette Presbyterian Church (sometimes known as the Fulton Street Church) in Orleans Parish, New Orleans. The church burned down in 1860, but the records were saved, and the LDS has put them on film. I am hoping to be able to locate church records for either of the two events, either the marriage or the baptism which occurred at the Lafayette Presbyterian Church (sometimes known as the Fulton Street Church) that would state the town or village in Germany where Jacob was born. His father's Americanized name was John, he was probably Johannes in Germany, and early on. Jacob's naturalization papers say that they came over in 1836, but no ship's name or port was listed, so I am wondering if even the year is correct. (It is very possible that they landed 1st in Ohio, because that is where Mena was born, and so maybe they met there, but I haven't been able to ascertain this as yet.) So, from what I have learned, this is what I need: FHL US/CAN Film 1311102 Item 2 I believe the whole film is from the Lafayette Presbyterian Church, in Orleans Parish. This has Marriages 1843 - 1871 (I am looking for Aug 3 OR 5, 1854) Jacob and Mena Born This has Baptisms 1841-1855 (My G-grandfather Edward Augustus Born) was born Aug 7, 1855, but I don't have a baptismal date for him. Does anyone out there have access to these records? I would be thrilled, to say the least, if anyone can share this information. Kindest regards in advance, Kathy Cochran San Andreas, CA
Hi, everyone! I'm hoping someone will be able to answer some questions for me. Recently, I was looking for more info on Adelaide Macarty, wife of Azor Raymond Zeringue. They are my paternal 4th great grandparents. I really have no other info on Raymond, but I do have Addie's succession record which clearly states that her name was Adelaide Macarty, wife of the deceased Azor Raymond Zeringue. Addie died in 1844-45. I know of three children: Michel Raymond Zeringue, Adolph Raymond Zeringue (c. 1823) and Felicite Raymond Zeringue (c.1825). There are entries in the Archdiocese of New Orleans Sacramental Records for a marriage for Ramon m. Adelaida Dauphin, December 17, 1805. There are entries for the following children: Michel Zering (Reymond and Francoise Dauphin) baptized at 4 months 6/13/1808. Sponsor here is Therese Dauphin, the "infant's maternal grandmother". Pedro (Remond and Adelaida Dauphin) born 5/1/1809 Ulgere Athanese (Remond and Adelaida Dauphin) bapt. 6/24/1811 Louise (Remond and Francoise Macarty) born 1/27/1815 Joseph (Raymond and Adelaide Dauphin) born 2/23/1817. The sponsor here is Michel Raymond Zeringue. I asked someone on another board and she said this is my Raymond and Adelaide. Could it be? If so, why is Adelaide's last name "Dauphin" and sometimes her first name is "Francoise"? Did she use her mother's maiden name? Was this a common practice? How can I verify all this? I am very confused and need help please. Julie

Can someone help with an obituary for Jacob Gilbert who died in New Orleans on 9 March 1981? Julie
Gene, Thanks for the advise. I already tried to enhance the photo as you said. I e-mailed the Times Picayune this morning to see if they just by chance have the original, or have other suggestions. I was just happy to find it. Hi All, I was happy and surprised to see the photo. But it is so black in the newspaper copy. The only other newspaper photo I ever saw of my dad was his mug-shot in 1932 :). My grandmother died in 1964 a age 86 and my dad in 1965 at age 63. I barely knew them. I took Peggy's advise and wrote to the Times Picayune city desk this morning for advise. Fingers crossed, Sally ________________________________ From: Kathleen Deao <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Mon, September 20, 2010 8:05:28 PM Subject: Re: [LAORLEAN] Original Photo Doin' the happy dance with you, Sally! I would doubt that they still have the photo. They probably cleaned out a lot when they merged, moved, etc. But such a photo would be worth at least making an inquiry. If the news paper doesn't have the photo, maybe the person who took the photo would have the original. Does it say who took the picture? --- On Mon, 9/20/10, Kathleen Deao <[email protected]> wrote: From: Kathleen Deao <[email protected]> Subject: Re: [LAORLEAN] Original Photo To: [email protected] Date: Monday, September 20, 2010, 8:05 PM Doin' the happy dance with you, Sally! Helen, This is an interesting website, however it appears to be pension statements from the Revolutionary War and not the Civil War.
