Most of us have many bouts of "perplexation" in our research. You need to look at maps of Europe at the time of your investigation. Germany didn't really even exist then. It was a bunch of small political subdivisions (Konigreich, Herzogtum, etc.) which regularly fought with one another for territory. So one day someone could be Prussian, tomorrow Polish, etc and if they were from the "bach" country they may have been 10 "sort of nationalities" before even knowing something had changed. Or maybe the change is why they left. My surname is SCHWEITZER, which roughly means "shepard" or "herder" or someone from Switzerland. That g-g father was from Althornbach in Bavaria which is in now southern Germany, but maybe then it was part of Switzerland. 3. I found this to be true also. Another thing I recently noticed - I had been skipping over references to my relatives in the Social pages. I now check them out. I noticed references to an ancestor "visiting" another ancestor in MS. Don't know if they lived there for a while, if it was a camp or if they had a summer home. But, if you have GenealogyBank or something similar - check it ALL out. Also check Harrison Co - they are so close together! 1. [LAORLEAN] What to do with all your stuff?
    2. Of course the answer is to publish the material in some way that it will be preserved. This could be a formal book that you write about your family but most folks never get around to it. Another choice is to write a chapter on each family line. Using software such as Microsoft Word, Just start with the oldest generation and write about that individual using all the source documents you have and add endnotes so you can prove your story as you go along. Then list all his children and write about them with all you information, etc. Give this document to your children/grandchildren as a Christmas or other present. Add copies of photos, marriage records, death certificates, etc. to make it more interesting. If this is too overwhelming then at least make a gedcom file of your data and post it on several free genealogy sites for others to use. The tragedy would be for you to die, and all your "stuff" would be pitched or put in boxes in the basement by your relatives. Do something. Start now! You won't regret it. Marian

    3. Whatever you decide to do with your work when you go to join your sometimes elusive ancestors - put your wishes in your will - who gets what & where you want it to go. 2. I plan to donate my "place" books to the local county genealogical society. We live in Georgia, but there are lots of Louisiana people who live here now! The books I have concerning past family lines will be kept in the family. All of my kids (ages 38, 41, and 46) are fascinated with my old family stories, and want the books. Of course, my greatest ambition is to put it all into one book - just for family. Not sure I will get there though. Sue In a message dated 2010-10-01 2:23:09 P.M. 3. Some wonderful angel found the cemetery survey from Hancock Co, MS and she was on it. And then I rechecked "Find A Grave" and there was a picture of the tombstone. Then someone (another angel) from this fantastic, wonderful list send me a thing from the paper in New Orleans, called a Necrology Report, showing the following: 11/16/1909 - Mrs. S. H. Baumgartner. Bay St. Louis, Miss., Nov 15, Mrs. Saraphine Hepp Baumgartner died here Saturday (11/13/1909). Her funeral took place from Christ Church, in Front Street, Rev. Dr. Duffy officiating. Have not yet found an obit in the Bay St Louis papers, but eventually. Unfortunately for me, Mississippi did not begin keeping death records until 1912. Evidently when my Ggrandfather, William Allen Baumgartner, decided to move his family to Jacksonville, FL shortly after 1900 (they were all in that census) Seraphine went to live with her daughter and her family. Rosalie and husband Francois Marin. I even have pictures of those two with two of their children in MS.
