    2. There are no dumb questions. I have always known Bossier to be pronounced Bo-sure so I would guess that a Surname spelled the same would be pronounced the same. My last name is spelled Chauvin. Most people pronounce it Cha - van. Leah [email protected]

    3. This is probably a dumb question but I'm just going to go ahead and embarrass myself anyway: I've been told that Bossier City is pronounce Bo-zjer or bō′·zhər [not exactly sure how to spell this so you know how it sounds. So I hope you get the idea] Now, my question is.... if the city is pronounced bō′·zhər does that mean that the surname - Bossier - is also pronounced the same way??? I had thought is was pronounced [so it sounded French] Bos see yay Since this is one of my surnames, figured I'd better learn how to pronounce it correctly!!! Renée

Another tip is if you find a relative you don't know, write them a letter telling them who you are and what you are doing. Do NOT send them any photos in this letter. 1. [LAORLEAN] LA Library,
    2. Back in the mid 1970's I frequently had to lay over in Los Angeles to get home to Grand Forks where I was stationed in the Air Force. At that time the Grand Forks library had a few items on the local scene but nothing in the areas I was interested in. I was just starting to research my family and would spend my layover time in the LA Library. I had no clue as to how to research my family and talked with the Librarian on duty. Mentioned my situation and asked him for some directions on Genealogy Research. Everything was done using the Post Office and including a Self Address Envelope stamped envelope, I am still waiting for my relatives to respond. I think all they did was float off the stamps and reuse them. The Librarian asked me several questions and one in particular referenced my Great Grandfather. All I knew at the time was that he died in Belleville, Illinois. Some 3 months later I received a copy of a full size newspaper sheet which contained the obituary from the Belleville Newspaper from June 1904, which contained the entire Obituary. I would assume that given the increased interest in family research since then that they have added quite a bit of information. At that time there were no personal computers, and the Everton Publishing Company along with the Mormon Church seemed to be the main sources for data and guidance. Things have improved by leaps and bounds since then. The computer I am using on this letter is frequently considered more powerful than what we had at NASA during the Gemini and Mercury Programs and it sure doesn't take up two floors of a rather large building in Houston. 2. Hi NOVA, There is a tomb in St. Patrick's Cemetery No. 3(?), I think - maybe the one along City Park Ave, that has the name Matthias Meagher on it. But the inscription indicates that his granddaughter named Fitzpatrick is buried in it. Does anyone know about it or can someone do a lookup on where it might be? Thanks, Colleen

    2. This question might be more for Collen than anyone else. Does the library system in Los Angeles have a good genealogy section as well as newpaper collection of newspapers in the La area ?  Or is the NO library the only one of its kind.  Going there on vacation after the first of the year and thought I might stop in. 2. Hi Colleen, My Thomas Burns married Katty Maher on 20 Apr 1874 in New Orleans. Her parents at other times were known as Patrick (1826-1887) and Henora (Honora) (1831-1897) Meaher. When Katty died, she was known as Catherine Meaher Burns. However, she is buried in Metairie Cemetery in a Keenan - Meaher tomb. Catherine's sister Margaret married Dr. James Keenen. I have never discovered any other members of the Meaher family, nor anyone, anywhere using that spelling. How about you?
