    3. Yes, I know about that succession. The problem is to get to the library. I have a query out to a RAOGK volunteer, but I haven't heard back from him yet. 3. Nancy, a succession was listed, filed by Civil District Court for Oren Mayo Boatner and Mary Leigh Guion Boatner, his wife, in the Times Picayune on May 6, 1926. So, a succession was filed and might be available on microfilm at the New Orleans Public Library.

    3. Thank you, Lynette. I will look up that census record. I never thought to look for him under Guion Boatner. I will have to re check that death certificate and see if it lists a middle name or initial. I had looked for a Lewis age 13 but I found too many to narrow it down. Thanks, Nancy From: "Lynette Vinet" <[email protected]> Nancy, Lewis Boatner was listed on the 1930 census as Guion Boatner. He was listed as age 13, living with an uncle named Edward E. Moise, age 48, Anne J., age 42, Frances, age 15 and Evarise age 12. The Moise family lived at 908 Burdette St. Hope this helps you.

    1. Re: [LAORLEAN] Lewis Boatner

    3. Gene, Thanks for that information. I am helping a man at the assessor's office who is tracing the descendants for property. He has the death certificate of Lewis Boatner and he knew he was a descendant of Lewis Guion. He asked me to find any siblings or heirs of Lewis Boatner. This is a favor I am doing for him so don't want to spend too much money - I am not going to be reimbursed. If this suit was settled in 1942, Lewis would have been 25/26 years old. In 1920 Lewis Boatner and his parents were living with her mother and father, Mary and Lewis Guion. Her mother is listed as a widow; her father died in early Jan. so he would be listed on the census. I guess the census taker came around after the death of her father. Also living with the family was her unmarried sister Caroline "Carrie" Guion. I have the newspaper article about the marriage of Mary L. Guion and Oren M. Boatner, also have the vol. and pg. number from the State archives, but I don't think the marriage record would be of any help. Nancy From: "Gene Hullinghorst" <[email protected]> All I could find on Genealogybank news articles was that in 1942 he was sued by a discount company and a judgment was entered for about $39. An RCA radio seized as part of the suit was auctioned off. The article gave the court file number in the First District? court in New Orleans. I have it written down at home. The case caption was Lewis Guion Boatner et al. The "et al." means "and others." The LDS library ahs microfilms of court records so if you are near a family history center they can help you order the proper film to see if there is any information on the "others." Did you order Lewis' death certificate from Florida Dept of Health? If you don't need cause of death it seems like you do not need to be a close relative to order it. Do you have information on his mother's family? When she and her husband died a few months apart, it might be that one of her family members took Lewis in rather than him being sent to an orphanage. The parents' marriage record is available from the state archives for $5 if you don't already have it. It may list her parents and where she was from -N.O. or otherwise. Gene Seems like Oren's family was prominent in the legal / political community (father and brother). Doesn't look like Lewis went to live with any of them. ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message

    3. The Historic New Orleans Collection has a lot of the legajos (meaning bundles of papers) from the Archivo General de Indias, Papeles Procedente de Cuba and the Audiencia de Santo Domingo on microfilm. These relate to the Spanish colonial government of Louisiana. The original documents are in Seville, Spain. Contact THNOC to find out if they have the one you want, and then you can make copies from the microfilm. Of course they are handwritten in archaic, eighteenth-century Spanish, with all sorts of strange abbreviations and curlicues. I copied several hundred pages relating to the Spanish Intendente Ramon Lopez y Angulo, who was the first husband of Delphine Macarty (later Madame Lalaurie). I had a native Spanish-speaking friend help me translate them, and even she had trouble. Fortunately for Renee, the document she wants is published in Le Raconteur, but the microfilm at THNOC is a good resource to know about. This was from Legajo 211A. What specific item are you looking for in Legajo 215? 3. I would like to know what happened to Lewis Boatner after his parents died. He ws born Aug. 23, 1916 to Mary L. Guion and her husband Oscar [Oren Mayo] Boatner. In the 1920 census he was an only child. His mother died in January 1926 and his father died in April 1926. [Only death notices, no obituaries] What happened to Lewis then? I haven't found him on the 1930 census. I have seen his death certificate. He died in Miami Dade County, FL on May 21, 1976. Miami Dade library says there was no obituary. The death certificate says he was divorced and his parents were unknown. What happened to him between 1920 and 1976? Did he have any siblings? Who did he marry, where? When and where were they divorced? Did he have any children?
