I have located his marriage documents, and his father is listed as Onesime Landry and mother is listed as Suzanne, no last name. I have found a couple of Onesime (or variations on the spelling : Ozeme, Onezime, Ozime) Landrys in the census records from SW LA. The story goes that Joseph Landry was taken from his mother and given to an aunt and uncle to raise (Philemon, Philomene Landry??). Joseph married Louvinia Lavergne, who was the dtr of William and Marie Lavergne. They were FPOC before emancipation, as far as I can tell. The family says that Louvinia was "an Indian" and a Healing Woman. (I also found out recently that she was a bootlegger, too!). I would love to exchange info with anyone connected with this family.
