    1. Re: Ancestor Jean Claude Landry
    2. In a message dated 5/1/01 8:00:08 PM Central Daylight Time, GHeeb writes: "I just returned from a visit with my family in Napoleonville, LA. I am relatively new to genealogy but have collected some of the work of other family members. My direct line is from Jean Claude Landry b @ 1595 m @ 1612 to Marie Salle b @ 1574-1602, daughter of Jean Denys Salle b @ 1574 in Cougnes, La Rochelle, FR and Francoise Arnaud b @ 1576. This is as far back as I have and some dates are estimated. Any help in getting more accurate information or learning more about my ancestors would be appreciated. Do you have suggestions for resources? Direct line descendants of Jean Claude are Rene, Claude, Jean Baptiste, Prospero, Jean Pierre, Jean, Marcellin, Maurice ( g-g'father), Henry (grandfather), James (father). I have most of birth, marriage, death dates, and wives." ========================= I am sorry to inform you that your claim to the descendancy from Jean Claude Landry b @ 1595 m @ 1612 to Marie Salle b @ 1574-1602, is and can only be wishful thinking at this time. Most noted genealogists, Stephen White and the late father Clarence d'Entremont in particular dispute the very existance of a person by the name of Jean-Claude Landry, let alone his being the father of either of the Rene Landrys. Stephen A. White writes: "Regarding the origin and parents of René Landry, le Jeunne there is probably no other Acadian family about whose background there has been so much speculation and wishful thinking. The result is that what we actually know about the Landry families who immigrated from France to Acadia, has come to be regrettably enshrouded in a dense fog of error and confusion." Please view the webpage entitled "Jean- Claude landry, Myth or ptogenitor" at: http://www.landryfamily.com/jeanclaude.htm for an discussion and rebuttal of this theory for the rebutal of theis theory.
