    1. Working on FIRST Names, starting with the letter "C"...

    3. Hi Folks: The following message is posted for the benefit of "new" members of this LANDRY Mailing List and will be re-posted on an ongoing basis. --------------------------------------------------------------- A subscriber to one of the other Mailing Lists which I Facilitate, has offered the following suggestions as a means of increasing the activity on the List: "Would it be possible to start a trend? Each week we concentrate on one letter of the alphabet for FIRST names of Landry? We are getting a lot of input this way on another List and great discussions going. As an example, the first week we work on people whose first name begin with the letter A. There can be the usual e-mails covering all subjects concerning the Landry lines but this might put some spark back into the list. Just a suggestion." I very much support this suggestion and encourage all subscribers to participate. So, to get the ball rolling, I'll chose a letter of the alphabet to work on for the current week (see the Subject Heading above), such as... 1st week: Post information (or ask about) any BERNARD names starting with "A" 2nd week: Post information (or ask about) any BERNARD names starting with "B" 3rd week: Post information (or ask about) any BERNARD names starting with "C" etc. etc. etc. PS1: Anyone on the List can chose an appropriate letter (A, B, C etc.) and keep the ball rolling. PS2: Don't send your messages to ME... send them directly to the List at: LANDRY-L@rootsweb.com PS3: This "idea" is NOT to discourage anyone from asking/posting any other genealogy-related information to the List... it is merely intended to be a catalyst to get subscribers to actively participate. Enjoy. PS4: Since all messages are archived by subject matter, I would suggest the following be used as a "Subject Heading"... Subject: LANDRY first names starting with the letter A or Subject: LANDRY first names starting with the letter B etc. etc. YVON L. 1. Press Release CMA 2004/Communiqué de presse CMA 2004
    2. I recieved the following press release from Felix and Lucille Amirault at: amifl@ns.sympatico.ca (Felix Amirault) =========== PRESS RELEASE ________________________________________________________________________ For distribution Friday, June 15, 2001 CMA 2004 announces major events ! Halifax (N.S.) - The Congrès mondial acadien organizing committee is pleased to make this first of a series of announcements regarding its programming for the 16-day event to be held in Nova Scotia in 2004. On July 31, 2004 opening ceremonies will be held in the Acadian region of Clare in South West Nova Scotia. Historically, Samuel de Champlain and Sieur De Mons as well as other French explorers, landed on the beautiful shores of la Baie Sainte Marie in 1604. This event will commemorate the beginings of Acadie. On August 7 and 8, Acadians and their friends from around the world will experience Acadian culture and arts in all its forms in the region of Chéticamp on the Cabot Trail. Recognised world-wide for its music and crafts, Chéticamp will welcome Acadian artists from all of Nova Scotia for a splendid showcase of modern as well as traditional creations. All participants will congregate for a pilgrammage to the site which commemorates the deportation of the Acadians on August 15, national feast day for Acadians. Grand-Pré National Historic Site of Canada will host a religious ceremony. To celebrate 400 years of the founding of Acadie as well as the start of French colonization of the Americas, the city of Halifax will play host to a musical happening of international calibre, ringing with pride and praise for a people with such a rich background. This event is equally significant to ALL as the anniversary is an important part of Canadian history. Allister Surette, President of the organizing committee states. ‘ These events will be the anchors of the Congrès mondial acadien. Our goal is to showcase the vitality and vibrancy of Nova Scotia’s Acadie to the world.’ Details of these and other events will be released at a later date. A call for proposal for producers of the events will be released shortly. Other events include family reunions, festivals, conferences and twinning ceremonies with communities in Louisiana. In all, it is expected that more than 1,200 activiies will be hosted during the CMA 2004. Hundreds of thousands of visitors from around the world are expected to attend this third Congrès mondial acadien which marks, for Acadians living outside Nova Scotia, a return to their homeland. For further information : Vaughne Madden, General Manager Congrès mondial acadien 2004 Suite 106, Roy bldg. 1. Copyright considerations; please read carefully!
    2. Yvon Cyr
    3. Hi Folks: The following message is posted for the benefit of "new" members of this LANDRY Mailing List and will be re-posted on an ongoing basis. --------------------------------------------------------------- [IMPORTANT: Please be certain to read this message in its entirety]. Copyright issues are very complicated and while it is not my intent to discourage anyone from posting the excellent historical information which benefits all subscribers, it is very important that you be made aware of Rootsweb's policy relative copyright: 1. ROOTSWEB'S COMMON-SENSE ACCEPTABLE USE POLICY: Neither Rootsweb nor the Listowner (me) own the material posted on Mailing Lists. YOU OWN YOUR POSTS. When you post messages to this Mailing List, message boards, and other facilities at RootsWeb, those posts remain YOUR property under copyright law and as such, it is YOUR responsibility to ensure that the material posted meets established copyright regulations. 2. ROOTSWEB MAY ARCHIVE AND REDISTRIBUTE: By posting to this Mailing List, you give RootsWeb a permanent license to archive and redistribute those posts, so as to provide current and future users access to your posts,. This policy may be superseded in specific circumstances by other commitments made by RootsWeb. 3. POST ONLY MATERIAL YOU OWN: When you post to RootsWeb, you must either be the copyright holder (that basically means you wrote it), have written permission from the copyright holder, or the material must clearly be in the public domain (which is very often the case). 4. YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR POSTS: If you post anything that results in RootsWeb being sued, you are responsible for any costs you incur. They may also hold you responsible for any costs they incur defending themselves. 5. ROOTSWEB RESOURCES MAY NOT BE RESOLD: No RootsWeb facilities -- for example, Web sites, Mailing Lists, and message boards -- may be resold. Public domain content on RootsWeb may not be harvested for commercial or other use, other than as would have been permitted by the Fair Use provisions of American copyright law if the material had been copyrighted. Material written and posted by an individual may not be harvested for commercial or other use, except with the permission of that individual or as permitted by Fair Use. 6. ROOTSWEB MAY REFUSE SERVICE: For violations of this agreement or other policies posted on the RootsWeb site, RootsWeb may revoke the violator's right to use part or all of the RootsWeb site. SUMMARY: As you can clearly see, RootsWeb takes the rights of copyright owners seriously. As their Acceptable Use Policy (above) states, users are expected to post only material they own. Therefore when you post to the RootsWeb's Mailing List, you must either be the copyright holder (that basically means you wrote it), have written permission from the copyright holder, or the material must clearly be in the public domain. For additional information and guidelines pertaining to "copyright", please visit: <http://twp.rootsweb.com/copyright.html> YVON'S FINAL THOUGHT: After reading the massive amount of information at the above-noted link, it appears that the consensus is that one can reprint a PORTION of an article however, reprinting an entire article _does_ violate the copyright. I am certain that most people who do this, do not INTENTIONALLY violate the copyright law, but nevertheless it is important that you protect yourselves. Also, please remember, once a message is posted to the Mailing List, it is automatically/permanently archived by the Rootsweb software and CANNOT be removed from that archive. FYI. AN IMPORTANT PS: The subject of "copyright" is NOT appropriate for this Mailing List. If after carefully reviewing the information at the above-noted link, you have any questions, they should be directed to ME in a _private_ message. YVON L. 1. Joseph M. Landry
    2. Don, I believe the Joseph M. Landry to be the same as Josef Maria Landry. The name of the wife is Marguerite Francoise Pivauteaux/Pivoteau/Pivoto. Let me start with my GG Grandparents on back. Claire Lapointe, d. of Vital Lapointe and Marie Aveline Landry m. Aurelien Hargrave, s. of James Hargrave and Sarah Walker. Marie Aveline Landry d. of Joseph Maria Landry and Marguerite Francoise Pivoteau m. Vital Lapointe s. of Pierre Lapointe and Isabelle (Elizabeth) Broussard. Joseph Maria Landry s. of ???? b. abt. 1750 m. Marguerite Francoise Pivoteau d. of Guillaume (William) Pivoteau and Louise Duquette/Laquet/St. Eustache. With every baptism the last name was different. Marguerite was b. June 2, 1764. I have been told that Joseph is the some of either Rene Landry and Rose Marie Rivet or Augustine Landry and Anne Rivet. So far I have not been able to prove or disprove either one. I haven't done enough research into the Landry side to be sure of my facts. From what I have been able to gleam so far, Augustine and a second wife, Marie Babin had another son by the name of Joseph. If I have these facts straight. I would be very interested in knowing one way or the other. It does make it interesting that the witnesses at their (Joseph and Marguerite) wedding was Blas Rivet and Josef Landry. Maybe this information will help. Darla

    2. In a message dated 6/8/01 7:05:42 PM Central Daylight Time, Kera103034@aol.com writes: > Hi All > Here are some different spellings LANDRY I have got from email and books . > If you have a spelling I do not have here please email me . > > LANDERICUS, L'ANDRE, LANDRI, LANDRIE, LANDRIS, LANDRY, LONDRE , LONDRY > Thanks Charlotte Charlotte: The French family name Landry is of patronymic origin, belonging to that category of names derived from the first name of the father or ancestor. In this case, the name simply denotes "the son of Landry, a popular personal name during the medieval period, early forms of which included Landri, and the regional variant Landry. There are some who state that the name Landry is actually an ancient baptismal name of Germanic origin, "Land-rik", a composite name, which signifies, literally, "land/country?powerful". Today in France, different spelling variations of Landry are a common occurrence. Dictionaries of surnames indicate probable spelling variations of Landry to be Landre, L'andre, Landri, Landrin, Landrey, Landro, Landron, Landru and Lendry. The surname Landry, considered to be the second oldest name in France, is a name steeped in history, religion and culture. Numbering among its members no less than four saints 3 of which were named Landericus). The name has also lent its name to towns in France, Canada, and the United States, as well as to the labels to at least two prestigious French wines. Don Landry don2717@aol.com

    1. How do you get removed from the Mailing List?
    2. Yvon Cyr
    3. Hi Folks: The following message is posted for the benefit of "new" members of this LANDRY Mailing List and will be re-posted on an ongoing basis. --------------------------------------------------------------- Once you have joined, there are only _three_ ways a subscriber can get removed from the LANDRY Mailing List: 1. You chose to unsubscribe yourself for whatever reason. 2. I chose to unsubscribe you because you are not following established guidelines. 3. The Rootsweb software automatically removes you from the Mailing List, because messages being sent to your address are being "bounced-back". Item # 1: a) You may chose to "temporarily" unsubscribe from the List because you are going to be absent for an extended period of time. That of course is YOUR decision and when you return, you need only re-subscribe. In this instance, you are NOT required to provide me your name when you re-subscribe, since I already have you in my records. If however, you change your e-mail address before re-subscribing, be certain to send me your complete name. b) You change your e-mail address, in which case, you need to unsubscribe the "old" address and re-subscribe under your "new" address. Here again, you must provide me your complete name for my records (only). Item # 2: a) Very few people get removed from the List by myself...and when they do, it is usually after they've received fair warning that they are breaking established guidelines of the Mailing List (a blatant "flaming" message is one of the few exceptions where a member may be removed without further warning). While I can usually live with heated discussions, I cannot condone and will not accept any personal attacks against any subscriber. b) When subscribers are removed from List by myself, it is PERMANENT and they cannot re-subscribe. Item # 3: a) The Rootsweb software automatically unsubscribe's a member, when a number of messages from the Mailing List have been "bounced-back" (for whatever reason) by the subscriber's Internet Service Provider. While a change in e-mail address can cause this, more often it is because the subscribers Mailbox is full (or exceeds the size allowed by your ISP). b) I am provided a copy of all "bounced" messages by the Rootsweb software and I usually attempt to advise the subscriber...however, sometimes my messages are also "bounced". If you do receive my message, you need to quickly contact your local ISP to have the matter rectified and/or delete some of the messages in your Mailbox (at the ISP server level). c) If you stop receiving messages from the Mailing List (and have _not_ been informed that I was unsubscribing you for cause), you need only re-subscribe by using the information listed at the URL address of my signature. 1. ENGLISH PASTOR APOLOGIZES TO ACADIANS
    2. ENGLISH PASTOR APOLOGIZES TO ACADIANS According to Acadian writer Clive Doucet, the Acadian deportations of 1755 (ex. Grand-Pré, Nova Scotia) and 1758 (Charlottetown, P.E.I.) mark the real beginning of the British Empire but the long, rich and complicated tapestry of Acadian survival remains, on the whole, still unspoken and unacknowledged. In his recent book (Notes from Exile, McClelland & Steuart ), he says that "the story of Acadie is the story of the disappearance of a people from the geography of nations...and it happened at gunpoint" i.e. at British gunpoint. He adds : "It's as if a great broom had swept through Acadian society erasing not just the elders but our history.....Nothing happens in Acadie that is not marked by the Deportation. It is a wind that still blows." A wind that nowadays seems to herald for Acadians what has been called a transitional-time of cleansing-closing : a time of reconciliation ! What transpired in the parish of Mont-Carmel, Prince Edward Island, on April 1st, 2001 indeed reverberates throughout the land of Acadie for a time for genuine reconciliation. The cause of all this commotion : the homily given in French by visiting English pastor, David Adcock, of the Southampton Community Church in England. A former advisor to the BBC in religious broadcasting for 5 years, thus enriched by a border perspective about the Christian faith today, pastor Adcock met the folks from the Summerside Community Church (P.E.I.) who attended one of the Church's conference in England. Pastor Adcock had then shared the importance of reconciliation between churches and peoples. It was the Summerside congregation that arranged for him to go to Mont-Carmel, a predominantly French Acadian parish, and meet Father Eddie Cormier. He was then invited to speak to the people at their regular Sunday Mass. Basing his homily on Saint Paul's second epistle to the Corinthians 5 :17ff and also on the theme of the Lenten season : "So many reasons to be reconciled", pastor Adcock spoke on the ministry reconciliation that Christ offers. He spoke these words to the Acadian parishioners of Mont-Carmel : "As an Englishmen, I read about the expulsion of the Acadian people last year when I visited Prince Edward Island for the first time. I was shocked by the way you were treated. If you feel it is relevant for an Englishman, a "pasteur" from Southampton, in the year 2001, to apologize, I want to do so. I want to ask your forgiveness for the way my people treated you". Pastor Adcock informed the parishioners that he works with Protestant Evangelical groups in Normandy (France) with friends from a Roman Catholic charismatic community. Not far from the beaches where Canadian soldiers gave their lives, in the Second World War, his Church has set up a house called "Sans Frontières" (Without Borders). He added that "just as Christ has reconciled us to God, we too have this ministry of reconciliation".Mont-Carmel parishioners, surprised and overwhelmed, expressed their assent by a heartfelt applause, some in tears. For a local historian, " it was an incredible and moving experience. It was as if the evils about the deportation of his people, that had been submerged and hidden for so long, were suddenly brought to the surface in the parish where he grew up. At last, to be faced, cleansed and changed" ! It's the beginning of a long process which should end up at Grand-Pré (Nova Scotia) when Queen Elizabeth apologizes to Acadians worldwide for the ethnic cleansing that her royal ancestors and the British government perpetrated against an innocent people.
