THE SWISS LANDRY FAMILY LINE ORIGIN, PROGENITORS AND PROGENY There is a Landry family line or clan from Switzerland whose progenitor is Jean-Jacques Henri Landry, who established in Louisiana ca 1850. Jean Jacques Henri Landry and Susanne Celestine Sandoz settled in St. Martinville in the 1830s, and today, their progeny are concentrated in the Lafayette, Louisiana area. I was fortunate enough to receive the following information on the ancestors of Jean Jacques Henri Landry from Sarah von Allmen at sarah@angloswiss.net who has a website on Swiss immigrants at: http://angloswiss.net/ She provided me with the following genealogical succession: 1. Jean Pierre Landry ====== 2. François Louis Landry, born Baulmes (canton of Vaud), and confirmed at Les Verrières, Christmas 1743. Married Jeanne Marguerite Besson at Les Verrières on 30 April 1749. François Louis' father was Jean Pierre Landry. =========== 3. Jean Jaques Landry, baptised at Les Verrières on 5 Sept 1756, and confirmed at Couvet, Christmas 1774. Married Susanne Catherine Frasse at Les Verrières on 13 June 1786. Jean Jaques' parents were François Louis Landry and Jeanne Marguerite Besson (daughter of David). ========== 4. Jean Jacques Henri Landry, born Les Verrières (canton of Neuchâtel), 9 July 1789; confirmed 27 March 1807, both at Les Verrières). Son of Jean Jaques Landry of Belle-Perche, church elder at Les Verrières, and Susanne Catherine Frasse (daughter of Jonas). (JJH's brother, David Louis, was a "gendarme" in various villages of the canton of Neuchâtel.) Following is what I had on this Landry line until then: ORIGIN OF THE SWISS LANDRY FAMILY HISTORICAL Jean Jacques Henry Landry Then there are the Swiss Landrys of Louisiana whose progenitors were Jean Jacques Henry Landry son of Jean Jacques Landry and Susanne Catherine Frasse of the canton of Neuchatel, Switzerland, who according to his passport, left the canton of Neuchatel, Switzerland arrived in Philadelphia in 1817 at age 27. She arrived in America in 1829 with her parents and her 4 brothers. Jean and Suzanne settled in St. Martinville in the 1830s, and their progeny are concentrated in the Lafayette, Louisiana area.
