I am new to this list and looking for information on a Christian Landis of eastern Lancaster County, mid to late 1800s. This is all I have on him from census data: Upper Leacock Township, Lancaster County, Pa 1850 census: 207/216 Landis, Christian 39 ( maybe 30 ) Farmer Wife: Esther age 31 Children: Henry ; 10; Reuben 3; Adam 1 Appears in the 1860 census at age 46 with two additional children: Milton and Lydice(sp?) My interest is this. My great-grandfather ( William Hamer Johnson, 1858 - 1928 ) was orphaned at age 6 and he and his family of three other siblings were broken up and sent several different places to live. His mother died in 1877 when he was 19. William later moved to Philadelphia where he lived most of his adult life. He had two sons, Christian Johnson and Landis Johnson, the later my grandfather. It has been a mystery to all of us why he chose those names. Landis Johnson was my maternal grandfather. I have found no people named Landis in the extensive genealogy developed so far. The only clue I have is that the above mentioned Christian Landis lived in the area of Lancaster County where Wm H Johnson lived before his move to Philadelphia, and C. Landis may have befriended or raised or othewrise helped William Hamer Johnson. I am hoping someone knows more about Christian Landis. Robert Landis Ballantyne
