"Landers' Landings," Vol. 3, #1 (July - August 1983), pg. 6, shows a transcription of a court record titled "Kerlock & the Landess vs. Joseph Rogers," from the Mecklenburg Co., NC, October 1787 session, State Archives, Co. Ct. Minutes, Ct. R.s 65, Vol. 2, pgs. 166/67, which ordered Joseph ROGERS to pay a nominal sum of money to the complaintant named KERLOCK for three of the orphans of Christopher LANDESS, deceased. I am searching for more information about this person named KERLOCK as one of Christopher's granddaughters, Rachel LANDERS, married my direct ancestor George W. CARLOCK/CEARLOCK, and I am searching for information about George's ancestors whom I believe may have also lived in Mecklenburg Co., NC. Christopher/Christian LANDESS/LANDIS/LANDYS was my direct ancestor, b. ca. 1710; d. 1 Oct 1771, Mecklenburg Co., NC; believed to be the Christian LANDESS who arrived in America in 1736 on the ship "Harle". Records show him to be in Augusta Co., VA, ca. 1754 to 1764. I am twice descended from Christopher's son Henry, both through his daughter Rachel and through his son Jacob. Christopher was also a direct ancestor of President Harry S. TRUMAN through his daughter Mary who m. Hans Michael "Michael" GUTKNECHT/GOODNIGHT. One of Michael GOODNIGHT's daughters by his first marriage, called "Katy LANDERS", is also believed to have been Catherine, the wife of Christopher's son Henry.
