    2. Laura & Brad Koehn
    3. Greetings list, Just thought that I'd mention another resource at our disposal for researching our LANDIS lines. The site is GenConnect. And for those of you not familiar with this site, the GenConnect "boards" are for posting queries and for recording helpful information that you have found in your research, such as bible records, wills, obituaries, etc. Below are the URL's to each of the LANDIS posting boards. Have a visit, and feel free to add your information. Please remember that the "Query" board is the only board that you can post QUESTIONS on. The other six boards are for you to record already found information to share with others. If you need assistance in using the boards, just drop me a line. 3. Good Morning, I have found out that when searching in Alsace, they spell the Landis name: Landaises (Landais) and Alsace has books of genealogy on this spelling. I thought perhaps when searching the German, France, area you could also try this spelling and maybe find something you may have been looking for. 1. YORK COUNTY, PA LANDES FAMILY
    2. Janice Katherine Lund
    3. Hi! Dan Landess told me about this list....I've been on the internet 3 years and am on many lists but just joined this one. Would like to meet descendants of Christian LANDES of York County....here is a short outline of his family. Anybody out there related? Does anyone have any definitive proof of Christian's Father? My 3rd Greatgrandfather, Samuel LANDES (1801-1881) wrote this in an autograph book: he wrote in an autograph book the following paragraph. Now remember, this is Samuel LANDES who was born in 1801. Christian died in 1782 so there is only about 20 years between those dates. I know my Grandparents who were living in the 50's could remember clear back to a Great Grandmother who was born in 1799 just off the top of her head. Now that was about 4 generations! So Samuel said: "A bit of history. In the first settling of America, an old man Landes and 3 of his boys came to America and settled in Pensilvania and from those three boys all the Landes's spring from. All I ever heard of, my Grandfather, John Landes, lived in York County, Pensylvania where he was married to a Katherine Miller by her maiden name, where as my Father, John LANDES was born and moved with his parents to Rockingham County, VA. Married Grandmother, whose name was Frances Brenaman. Lived four miles west of Harrisonburg where I was born June 10, 1801. Moved with my parents to Augusta County, Virginia, married my wife, Magdalene Syple (Siple) May 2, 1822. In September, 1837 moved to Putnam County, Indiana. In March 1856, moved to Clarke County, Iowa. Next June 10th day, if I live, will be 82 years old. Mother will be 80 years old May 18, 1883. I wrote above without my glasses. And as to when or where we died makes no difference so * we die in the Lord. April 10th, 1883 (signed) Samuel Landes * A common Mennonite expression. ***************** Here is the outline: Descendants of Samuel Landes 1 Samuel Landes 1801 - 1881 b: 10 June 1801 in Rockingham County, Virginia d: 12 June 1881 in Westerville, Decatur Co., Iowa .. +Magdalena Siple 1804 - 1889 b: 13 May 1804 in Shenandoah County, Virginia d: 25 January 1889 in Westerville, Decatur Co., Iowa m: 02 May 1822 in North River, Augusta Co., Virginia ........ 2 (Infant) Landes ........ 2 Diana Landes 1823 - 1823 b: 10 February 1823 d: 21 February 1823 ........ 2 Margaret Landes 1824 - 1908 b: 07 June 1824 d: 01 January 1908 in Topeka, KS. ............ +William R. 3. Good Afternoon! I had been in contact with a lady in Shelbyville about a Landis Bible. Today I received a copy of it. For those interested in getting a copy of it let me know. all I ask is that you send me a s.a.s.e. with 1 dollar for the cost of copying it. It is great. Phoebe Lee Landis and her daughter (if not other children) are listed in it as well as marriages, births, deaths. The Bible itself was made in 1840. Along with it she had the persons who wrote The Bedfor County Tennessee Bible records copy the Braden Bible as it also contains Landis's from the above listed bible. If you don't want a copy but want to know what is in it I will have it on my website by Monday.. Have an Awesome Weekend! 3. Am looking for information on an Abraham Landes, born May of 1790 died August 8, 1864 married April 12,1818 to Mary Hoover born in 1795 and died August 16, 1874. It is believed they lived in Bucks/Montgomery Co. Pa the first part of their married life. Around 1842 they moved to Juniata co. Pa. where their children grew to adulthood and where they are buried. Nothing more is known about either of them or who their parents are. Any information would be greatly appreciated. It was already set up when I visited rootsweb. I'm sure the digests are automatic, so nobody's time is needed for that. 3. Hi John, and other fellow LANDIS researchers. My name is Laura Koehn, and I am the LANDIS list owner. Welcome! Regarding the "digest" form of this list, it will automatically be generated when there are enough messages built up to send out. Let me know if you need my help in any way regarding the list. ----- Original Message ----- From: John Light-Monterey,CA <jblight@redshift.com> To: <LANDIS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, August 09, 1999 10:57 PM Subject: Landis and Light family connections > P.S. 2. John Light-Monterey,CA
    3. I have just learned from a well established genealogist of a book with some "interesting Landis and Light family connections". It is by Richard Warren Davis "Emigrants, Refugees, and Prisoners", Vol. 2, pages 262 to 268. Does anyone have a copy of the book, the pages, or familiar with the title? I am also interested in making contact with two Landis researchers and believe they would add some valuable knowledge to this list. They are S. Michael Wilcox and Roland Wagner, two authors of Landis articles for Pennsylvania Mennonite Heritage. Anyone here in contact with them? I do have addresses for them taken from the articles, but those go back a number of years; hoping to find email contact. -JL P.S. Dear list owner (is that you, Dan?) - I sneakily tried subscribing to the d-"digest"list, and it took, is that OK? Will a digest be generated automatically by rootsweb or must it be manually managed? If the later, I can unsubscribe, until this list gets real busy and we can't live without it. Thank you whoever you are for setting us up on rootsweb, and to Dan for offering (and contributing) to a web location.

    3. I'm looking for an early LANDIS family in Lancaster County, PA. The father was a John Landis, born about 1714 in Earl Twp, Lancaster, PA. The one child I have is Anne/Anna LANDIS born 1740, also in Earl Twp. She married Christopher ROYER about 1763, still in Earl Twp. probably. She was still living when Christopher died in 1803 in Earl Twp. I have information on her descendants, but am looking for more on her parents and siblings.
