    3. Jeff: Why don't you join the Putnam County, Indiana list and post all the collateral names associated with your Delilah LANDES? Also, go to Genforum and post a query on the LANDES page and all the other surname pages for the names associated with her family. I'll bet you meet some new "cousins" that way! 3. To all Landis listers I would like to say I hate to hear of such things happening to those who try so hard to put out a GREAT site and try to help all that request it. I think Stacie's should be commended on the time and effort that she has put into her site and requests. I can only hope those that have made her shut down her site are reading the email and rethink there unforgiveness and respond to Stacie with an apology. We are all here trying to do the same thing, tracing our roots and sharing information. Some of us are able to help more then others and those of us that need help rely on those that can give the help. Stacie I wish you and yours a great holiday and hope you are able to return back to the net. I personally have enjoyed your information and links and I wish there was a way I could help you out. 3. There are a lot of people out there that confuse LANDERS with LANDES. Admittedly, some may have taken the LANDERS name BUT they also continued down through the years with that name. The LANDIS and LANDES is interchangeable. My line is from Pennsylvania to Virginia and then on to Putnam County, Indiana. There are some people who have mistakenly posted information mixing the LANDES and LANDERS names all up and it is really confusing some out there searching! Make sure you have the right connections as it really throws the other people off. Jan

    1. Loss of good manners.
    2. Marilyn Prinzing
    3. Stacie, I have been reading about the way some people have been so rude to you. Unfortunately, this problem seems to be troubling most of us who believe in "sharing "our info. I believe that there is a new group out there belonging to the "me generation" who have never learned manners or even care how they treat others as long as they get what they wanted. Even if I can't use the info that someone has sent me, I always acknowledge their Email and thank them for taking the time to contact me. That is only good manners. Several of my other surname cousins and I have started the habit of asking some questions first before we share everything with a new contact. It certainly saves on the postal costs of sending out full trees. For the most part I believe that most people who really care about genealogy are wonderful and share beautifully. Hopefully the boorish ones will get bored and leave us all alone. By the way I am still looking for my g,g,grandfather David Landis b. 1832 m. Sarah b. 1841. Their daughter Ida May Landis b. 1866, m. William Barringer b. 1838. (My line) Other children of David Landis and Sarah were: Ellen b. 1867; Maude b. 1870; Maggie b. 1872; Willie b. 1872; Belle b. 1874; Josephine b. 1876. Maybe there are some new people on the list that might recognize my family. Have a beautiful Christmas everyone. You are quite correct that the various spellings are equivalent. The spelling of surnames was not nearly as consistent then as now, and I have also found all the spellings you listed when I know, from other sources, that the same person is referenced. One of the other challenges you face is that there were at least two Landiss lines in Indiana. Mine, for example, moved to IN from NC (coming through KY and TN on the way), while it appears that yours spent time in VA. To make matters worse, John is a common name in both lines, although Christian seems to be absent from mine. For a fairly decent outline of the branch which began in NC, see http://www.landiss.com/family/ which was updated just about 15 minutes ago! ********************************************* That team performs best whose players benefit the most from the team's success. *********************************************

    3. To Stacie: I for one have so enjoyed your wonderful web page. I am hoping that you will not let the few bad apples spoil all your hard work. I have been working on my family history for many years and it was much harder when you had to travel quite a distance to find the information we now can find on the web. You have been such an inspiration to me. You have not given me that magic link to my elusive Landess ancestors but I have enjoyed sharing the information I have found on other Landes, Landess, Landis. I am a sensitive person and sometime people say hurtful things. My friends keep telling me to just consider the source, let it roll off your back, etc. It works but sometimes it hits you on a bad day. >From reading your website you have a real connection with your faith. Let your faith help you through these hateful emails and just hit the delete key!!!! That's what it is there for. I have been picked up on some spam list and I get all kinds of garbage. I refuse to change my email address I just see the garbage and hit delete. Stacie, have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New year along with everyone else on the list. Keep your chin up. Smile. God loves you. Have a happy new year. Sharon M. Bledsoe

    3. I hate to admit it, but there are selfish people out there, and Genealogists generally AREN'T. But we do have our share. Those who "harvest" but do not sow, are doomed to starve. I would REALLY like to see "Sweet Potatoe's " site back up. The disgruntled whining of those who make demands, and the silence of those who appreciate having the help are compounding into a feeling of not being "appreciated". I just want to express my appreciation to all of the genealogists who unselfishly put the hard researched data out on the web, and rightfully should expect reciprocity. I know I ran into the same problem with the Peffley Database, I transcribed the entire Book's database into FTM, Made a gedcom, and posted it all on the internet. (Copyright is in the public domain, I checked) >From that point on I found two things, a search on the Peffley name brought up the database, and sorting mine from the ones I don't know, is now difficult, AND others are gathering the information from the database (22,000 Visits) and not leaving the additional inforation for inclusion. I also debated taking down the site, and just leaving a email link, but decided against it. I did however unlink it from the Peffley Family Association site, and put the GEDCOM in WorldConnect. Since I unlinked it activity has picked up, and one researcher has posted 100 obituaries on that family in my GenConnect. So temporarily removing Data from the internet can stimulate researchers to contact you. 1. Landes, Landis, Landers Confusion
    2. Jeffery Scism
    3. Ok My Landis Family is out of Indiana, and I have reached a point of confusion, not that I can't find them, but that there are several, apparently unrelated with very similar names. I KNOW I am descended from Delilah Landis. She Married Moses Peffley. She is reputed to be a daughter of John Landis, and Sarah H. Burket, and Delilah has a sister named Sarah Landis. This information is likely accurate. John is reputed to be a son of Christian LandEs. Here is where the confusion sets in, there apparently in the same area at the same time was a Christian Landis, a Christian Landes, and a Christian Landers. Taking into consideration the variations of phonetic spelling, I would normally say that all three were the same person, or possibly cousins, etc. A researcher sent me Christian Landers' will, last year, and I can rule him out, I think. Here is what I have, tenetively in my files, source:The Peffley- Peffley-Pefley- Families in America and Allied Families published in 1938 by May Miller Frost. OK here it is: Descendants of Sarah H. 3. Stacie: As much as I hate to admit it...lately, I've been getting e-mails from people who've seen my information on he internet about John and Catherine (Miller) LANDES and John's Father, Christian. Their requests are getting more "demanding" if that is the right word. I love to share, don't get me wrong, and I do send them info but I ask for something on their family in return. Karen McPherson and I have been discussing this and we've found more and more people are writing "Send me all you have" and then they never respond back with a "Thank You" or anything on their family line. This is sad if this is how the genealogists of today are evolving...into selfish, demanding people. Don't misunderstand, there are plenty who share everything they have and always respond BUT it seems more and more people aren't willing to share. Don't be discouraged! You can't please everyone. You're doing a great job and we appreciate it! After the first of the year, I hope you put the site back on the internet and if the "demandees" don't appreciate it, maybe we could post some names of the ingrates...that would bring them to their knees!!! <grin> If anyone sees themselves in this little e-mail, maybe you could go back and respond to those who helped you so much. In the old days, I used to get so excited I practically cried when I found out something new...with the internet it seems to be "Give the info to me fast and never mind returning the favor". Am I hitting some "raw" nerves? I hope so!!!!! Okay, I'm off the soapbox now but I feel better for airing my thoughts and I'm sure Stacie does too!!!
