Stanford, You are the first Landis that I have found that also has a Shellenberger connection. My late father used to talk of an uncle whose surname was Shellenberger who went West. I have never known whether the connection was on the Landis side or the Barringer side of my grandmother's family. I have a David Landis b. 1832, PA who married a Sarah b. 1841, PA. Could Sarah have been a Shellenberger? David Landis and wife Sarah had the following children: Ida May Landis b. 1866 (my g,grandmother) m. William Barringer b. 1838. Ellen Landis b. 1867 Maude Landis b. 1870 Maggie Landis b. 1872 Willie Landis b. 1872 Belle Landis b. 1874 Josephine Landis b. 1876 William Barringer's parents were George Barringer(Bearinger) and Mary. George Barringer's family were from Bedford Co. PA and also MD. David Landis may have served in the Civil War; but, I have not found a good list to check this out. Do you or anyone on the Landis list recognize this family.? Following my signature are other family surnames. Thanks for any help I can get on this family. I am at the wall re David Landis. Good Morning, I have a question to throw at everyone on the list. My grandfather was born before Missouri kept records of births, he died before he was old enough to collect social security. Does anyone know how I can go about finding out where he died? Abraham LANDIS, born Pennsylvania, late 1700s, m. Mary MILLER, also born Pennsylvania. In 1818 they were in Stark County, Ohio In 1825 or possibly 1827, they moved to Madison Twp, Montgomery County, Ohio I know of three sons, but there were probably other children: Daniel Landis, b. 1818 M. LANDIS, b. 1836 Abraham M. LANDIS, b. 8/17/1829 in Montgomery County, Ohio Some of their descendants were Old Order German Baptist, so they may have been as well -- or possibly Mennonite. I would be grateful for any help in learning where they came from in Pennsylvania. Billie Jo Johnstone Lebanon, NH
Greetings Researchers, Now that the holidays are behind us, how about getting into some serious genealogical research. As Listowner, I am calling for a "Roll Call". Everyone is welcome to post the particular lines that they are working on to the list. Be sure to include all vital information with your query, such as birth, death, and marriage dates and places. Don't forget to include maiden names, if known. There are lots of new researchers this time of the year (affectionately dubbed "newbies"), so let's all be patient, understanding, and helpful. Below are some examples of some good and bad subject lines. Examples of GOOD subject lines: (Be descriptive--but short) Subject: John SMITH 1865-1734 Cleveland, OH Subject: John SMITH b.1865 OH md. DIRKS Subject: John SMITH md. 1885 OH Maggie DIRKS Examples of POOR subject lines: Subject: Looking for SMITH Subject: New subscriber post Subject: Johan SMITH Subject: Need help! Don't forget to post to the GenConnect boards for this surname as well. If anyone needs help with this mailing list or the GenConnect boards, please contact me. Good luck with your searching! Well Stacie and fellow Landis list members, As my later mother used to say, "Consider the Source." That was her way of teaching me to let it go and be at peace when nasty people were hurting me. Publishing the names of the boorish unmannerly ones might cause more trouble than it is worth. I would suggest, Stacie, that you make use of the Email blocking system in your computer. Should any of us experience a problem with one of the "jerks", we can always privately write to see if that person is on your list. I have found that some people come across very demanding; but, actually they are not really that bad. They just don't have the ability to express themselves well. Maybe they should review what they write from the point of view of the reader and do some editing. We have a new year coming in less than a week. Let us all give every one a fresh start and show kindness and good manners to our fellow researchers. Please in the year 2000, may I find a relative for my Dave Landis b. 1832. I am getting very tired of having my face to that wall. Happy New Year everyone. To All Landis, Landes, and Landers researchers, The recent post I made re: the Landes lines are as indicated, in apparent ERROR. The early sources I recorded were from internet sources, and have yet to be researched in a method that assures 100% accuracy, this is why i posted about conflicts and confusion the other day. The purposes of sharing the information is 1. to get everyone's input as to the accuracy 2. gain valid sources 3. correct errors 4. help those who may not have reached the levels in the records. Since three years ago when I "Gathered" the data and now my record keeping of sources has been much improved. the sources I had early gathered were recorded in my computer, which crashed taking them to oblivion, I was able to restore the family lijes froma saved gedcom, but the gedcom had not been updated with sources. So now I am in "Reconstruction, and verification." The value of these lists, and resources, is that a wide experience level is available, and learned persons like Janice Lund, are there to help those of us out here with "bad" data get it straight. Please do not take the Landes post as "Gospel" it is for the most part unsourced.I will do what I can in the future (on this list and whenever possible) to include sources in each post, to keep the confusion from spreading. Janice is right, we are about to have many new computer genealogist in our midst, and we need to be careful of what we "broadcast". Remember that we haven't seen the hateful messages that Stacie received, and only she can determine what is on her site. I have been corresponding with her for years, and I trust her completely. Karen McPherson
Sorry about the duplicated lines in my Landes post, FTM does that to me and I am still working it out... Jeff ____________________________________________________________________ Get your own FREE, personal Netscape WebMail account today at http://webmail.netscape.com.
