    3. Good Morning, I hope everyone is doing good and the weather hasn't bothered you much...we only got some rain a cold air...8-) thank goodness. well since the list has been quiet I thought I would pop out a quick query... I am wondering what information anyone or everyone has on the Landis's in Franklin and Lawrence Co. Ohio around the mid to late 1800's..... I am interested in one man in particular... William Landis m. Ida Butterworth (widow of John Butterworth ) and of course I would be interested in hearing or finding out about any other Landis' in that area of Ohio.... Thanks.. GO TITANS !!!!! 1. New Ethics-In-Genealogy Mailing List
    2. Laura & Brad Koehn
    3. Greetings Researchers, I'd like to introduce the new mailing list that has been created at RootsWeb, ETHICS-IN-GENEALOGY-L. This forum is for discussions of ethics, accuracy, integrity, and excellence in genealogical research. *As genealogists, what do we consider appropriate and inappropriate behavior? *Is there a code of ethics for family historians? *What internet genealogical sites would you rank as "excellent"? Which do you think are "inferior"? *Should we pay for genealogy? By posting our information to the net, are we "sharing", or are we just "giving away"? *Have you been "burned" by another researcher? What can and should be done? *Any comments about the big influx of inexperienced "newbie" family history seekers on the net? You must be a subscriber to post to the list. To subscribe send the word "subscribe" (without the quotes) as the only text in the body of a message to ethics-in-genealogy-l-request@rootsweb.com (mail mode) or ethics-in-genealogy-d-request@rootsweb.com (digest mode)." 1. POSSIBLE LANDISS CONNECTION
    2. Dan Landiss
    3. I have been corresponding with a Landiss in Tennessee whose line includes: Grant Lacy Landiss (b 1886 in TN), and his father: William Morris Landiss (b 1858 in IN), and his father: John Landiss (lived in IN). In my data base I have: John M. Landiss (b 1837) (m Sarah Byram), and his father: William Landiss (b 1805 in NC) (m Elizabeth Kincaid) (d 1850 in IN), and his father: William Landiss (b 1764 in NC) (m Mary Henderson) (d 1843 in IN), and his father: John Landers, Jr. (b 1739 in PA?) (m Mary Parish) (d 1825 in NC), and his father: John Landers (b 1718 in PA?) (m Frances --) (d 1757 in NC) Does anyone recall seeing any evidence that John (father of William Morris Landiss) is the same person as John M. (b 1837)? The dates are consistent, the geography matches, and the spelling is Landiss for both lines. The names John, William, and Elizabeth are frequent in both lines. What do you think? Thanks! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Dan Landiss <mailto:dan@landiss.com> St. Louis, MO <http://www.landiss.com> ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
