    2. You can get Sarsaparilla cordial on Blackburn market, by the glass or by the jar. Wonderful stuff. There's an old fashioned toffee shop in Skipton that sells all the old fashioned sweets including tiger nuts and the woody spanish. Bliss. We used the old stone jars as hot water bottles in winter (we were poor) with coats on the bed too. Pauline in Darwen

    3. Pauline Do you mean the liquorish root, re the woody one you mention? Not quite sure how to spell it, but boy do I fancy some of that. Which proves that someone must still be producing these things, tiger nuts etc. One ounce of cherry lips etc, you got such a lot for your small amount of pennies in those little triangular bags. Sherbert dips etc. Kayliy, now how do you spell that? I guess we could go on for ages on this. Sarsaparillo on line, wow! Olive

    3. Olive, There used to be a shop near Peel Brow School that sold liquorice root. You could chew it for ages. And the black stuff we called "spanish". And kayliy - know what you mean but probably have never seen it written till now. Used to love it. Seem to remember you could sometimes get hollow spanish tubes and suck up the kayliy with it. 3. David I used to love liquorice root and spanish too. Yes, the dips were when you sucked up the kayliy through a hollow tube, the bottom of the tube would go into a receptacle something like a small kind of firework, for instance, a snow storm size of thing. The river Croal in Bolton used to be full of chemicals etc. I have always wondered where it came from, but we once saw a dead monkey near by and there was a wooden shakey bridge that went over. We used to call this money bridge. We made up all kinds of stories and adventures. Crikey to think of all those chemicals, it makes you go cold now thinking of all the dangers. Olive
