    3. Hi all, I have been following the recent postings on food and sayings, with interest, especially the explanation for the word POBS. I had never given it a thought before other than enjoy a bowl of TEA POBS. made with well buttered bread w/crusts cut into spoon size pieces in a bowl into which the fresh brew of strong tea is poured with sugar added to suit taste. For me well sweetened. To family comments ie Uck, I reason that its preferable to dunking that they are wont to do with do-nuts, I've only recently reasoned that my Mother without knowing it was actually speaking American with the lazy tongue syndrome ie dropped T's. ie Denist, Ener, Twenny etc, when she would say Stop Chunnering and now years later find there it to be a good word Chuntering. and had to Google to find it. With the " up the dancers" to which no one responded with an explanation, it is my humble opinion this is not truly lanky but borrowed from the London cockney double slang. Explanation as best as one can, ie. a word is used alone that is associated with the word that one should be communicating. The word dancers came from Fred Astaire rhyming for Stairs. There is a cockney dictionary, I believe. Ive been standing all day so my "plates" are tired. ie Plates of meat.----feet.. So I'm going to scarper now, Scapa Flow-----Go. (There is a such a place). I'll get my titfer, Tit for tat------hat. Singing Off TTFN Jim in Poway California from Lydiate close to Ormskirk. Is that still West Lancs or is it now Merseyside.
