Dear John and Ruth, Many thanks for your suggested websites etc. Unfortunately the Rev. James Power remains elusive. The only facts that I can find online relate to his Marriage in 1841 in Liverpool to Sarah Bromfield; their residence at the Parish residence in Crossens, North Meols in 1841-1851 just prior to his Death. No Will found. One child/niece survives to adulthood Anne Power and Wife, Sarah d. 1869 in Edgehill called a Fund Holder, leaving a Will. I also found an Index from Ireland - Landed Estates Court Rentals - Rev. James and Sarah Power Dublin City, Owner, dated 5 November 1852, p. 58., this being after his Death in Crossens. I don't know just what this refers to, but perhaps a residence owned by them in Dublin. None of this however, can confirm that this man is the Father of JOSEPH POWER born about 1827 possibly Lancashire. Please anyone keep a look out for Rev. James Power, Clerk born Ireland about 1805. Robyn The marriage in 1841 is of course on Ancestry - is by Licence so have you tried to get hold of the licence? James and Sarah had four children - so I assume that you have killed the other three off? I found James's will in about 2 minutes of looking. Helps to know where to look. So let me explain the process in the hope that it will help others on how to look. As the death was in 1852 it is before the start of the National Probate service in 1858 so will be in one of the 300+ church courts but which one? Using the maps function of familysearch - http://maps.familysearch.org Entering Ormskirk and looking at Jurisdictions shows that the probate court is "Court of the Bishop of Chester (Episcopal Consistory)" Now a few years ago an online family history company called "British Origins" started a project called the National Wills Index with the aim of creating a master index for all wills prior to 1858. Sadly it no longer exist because it was bought out by Findmypast. Looking on FMP for a will for a James Power who died in 1852 shows one in Lancashire archives. The entry was for a James Power, Clerk, who died on 4 March 1852 in Crossens. The source is listed as " Lancashire Archives Probate Index Archdeaconry of Chester (supra wills 1800-1858)" - so should be listed on Lancat (http://archivecat.lancashire.gov.uk/calmview/) Archive reference - 1242B/26 You can order a copy of the will from Lancashire Archives Hope this helps Regards John Hanson - researching the Halstead/Holstead/Alstead names Researcher, the Halsted Trust, http://www.halstedresearch.org.uk New family history conference in 2018 http://www.secretlives.org.uk -----Original Message----- From: Robyn Clarke [mailto:rsclarke@bigpond.com] Sent: 20 June 2018 00:49 To: lancsgen@rootsweb.com Subject: [LAN] Re: Clerk in Holy Order Thanks Dear John and Ruth, Many thanks for your suggested websites etc. Unfortunately the Rev.
