My father Frank King went to Accrington Grammar School and we are trying to find further information about his time there. He was born in 1909 so he would have started about 1920. Does anyone know where to find the Grammar School records? Regards Robin
I had forgotten all about this Robin! Actually the chap belonging to AGSOB (Accrington Grammar Schools Old Boys) -- is also an avid participant on Accyweb. He has Accrington running through his veins! I am sure he will find someone to go to Lancs Archives. So we are looking for someone who visits there to take a look at the records. That is where we did our first course on archive research some 30 years ago. It was great and on the Sunday I was able to handle some original documents concerning my family. Robin
Robin With things like this the first port of call should be google. For "Accrington Grammer School" it lists quite a few but amongst them is one for the National Archives discovery database. This catalogue now includes the old a2a database with access to over 400 other catalogue http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/c/F201192 This shows that the records are in Lancashire Archives Regards John Hanson - researching the Halstead/Holstead/Alstead names Researcher, the Halsted Trust, http://www.halstedresearch.org.uk New family history conference in 2018 http://www.secretlives.org.uk -----Original Message----- From: Robin McEwen-King [mailto:shetlandsheep@googlemail.com] On Behalf Of robin@scottishwool.com Sent: 19 June 2018 09:01 To: lancsgen@rootsweb.com Subject: [LAN] Accrington Grammar School My father Frank King went to Accrington Grammar School and we are trying to find further information about his time there. This is from the Western Isles but I suspect it could be similar elsewhere. Robin -- there is an Accrington Grammar Schools Old Boys Association. I know the chap who runs it (or did) -- it's possibly after the dates you are interested in -- but the website is here; http://www.agsob.org.uk/ It may be worth contacting them -- butI will forward your message to the chap I know, who I have no doubt will help if he can.
