I could never find him in the 1881 census which was odd as he spent all his life in service before and after this episode . While checking the National Archives a few yrs ago for something else just entered his name and was amazed to find a record for him . It has always puzzled us as to why he was on this ship which was sailing in the Irish sea . There is mention in this new information found National Archives / Discovery ' Collection : Records of the Admiralty , Naval forces , Royal Marines , Coastguard and related bodies . " Interested to know anything regarding joining the Coastguard . Was this a part time occupation ??? Did one volunteer ??? Kind regards June
