    3. Hi Mike, What looks like James is living with his mother in Chorley in 1871. He is a commercial traveller. A burial that looks like him is at St John, Manchester, Jan 15 1878, Abode Wilmslow, and son is given as a relation so presumably he was buried in the same grave as his father. However, there is a probate for a James HOW, late of Grove Street, Wilmslow, Butcher who died 10 Jan 1878 to Mary HOW Widow the relict. So did he change his occupation or is there more than one of them? Hope this helps, Christine

    3. Hi Christine, I, too, have James HOW with his mother in 1871 but have also traced him to 1861 and 1851. I agree that, quite possibly, he is buried with his father, George, at St. Johns and, in the hope that I could find a MI to confirm this, is why I was hoping to establish whether the St. Johns Cemetery even exists today. No question that James married Mary ASTLE, November 25, 1875, at St. Gabriel, Hulme, Lancashire, UK but whether he ever became a Butcher, I don't know. Just yesterday, I sent off for James' Probate in the hope that it might tell me something. By the way, his father, George, was a Pawnbroker whose estate was Probated April 5, 1870 and valued at less than £7,000. Not an insignificant amount of £ in the 1870's. I've also sent off for George's Probate details. Thanks for trying to help. Much appreciated.
