Author: andreakkk Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.england.lan.general/52351.3.2.2.1.1.1.1.1.1.2.1.1.1.1.2.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: hi, Sorry for the delay I was working out something on the schoolmasters at Farnworth grammar school (scwofts) if you dont already ahve it let me kow and i will send you the link or just key in Farnworth Grammar School and the word Scowcrofts might come up on google - # Anyway - the remains at Tonge were all put in a mass burial grave with one single headsotne so nit much point in going to see it - i googled exhumation companies i was surprised at how they did the work even found one firm which was around over 160 years ago - I sould imagine all the bodies in 1860 went by horse and cart to Tonge (just down the road) in bags or something and as they were digging bodies dating back to goodness knows what year - i cant imagine how that went down with their relatives - I still dont fully understand WHY they were re-interred in the 1860s it was something to do wtih burial rites and acts - but they LEFT Samuel Cromptons undisturbed as well as a few other 'names' (incidently Samuel Crompton didnt get a lot for his invention at the time ) but these would have the affect of attracting vicitors to the church - i will find out more when i pop into Bolton after Xmas (one short bus ride but busy with the kids at the min and Xmas) Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
