It's too bad they couldn't open just in the summer if heating costs too much.  They could at least have give several months notice so that anyone who needed something could have made one last trip.

Thanks for the link - such sad reading! The Talbot was a vital repository of Catholic history in the North West and contained many items unavailable elsewhere. I have used it several times over the past decade during the course of my research into my own and other Catholic families and the staff were always knowledgeable and helpful. What is really scandalous is the apparent refusal to consider any other alternatives, nor allow any time for consultation or consideration of the options. To effect closure because one person is retiring and the heating bills have been going up is simply ridiculous and totally unacceptable. I am lost for words and feeling very angry.
