MARY Rhodes did marry Samuel Ellis at Wesleyan Methodist in Horsforth. Their Son Joseph was born 17/3/1820 but christened along with his sister Mary on 10/3 1824, Mary had been born a month previous. Perhaps THIS Joseph was born a bit too early to be my ancestor even though dad Samuel has the right profession. What's even more interesting is that there was a marriage between MARIA Rhodes and Samuel Ellis on 2/9/1833, which produced a son Joseph Rhodes Ellis 24/6/1834 along with a daughter Mary Rhodes Ellis who married in 1868. This birth year would be better, but then his middle initial would be R instead of Joseph D. So obviously this is the wrong one also, just a co-incidence that the names are all similar. I've not turned up anything on the marriage witnesses yet. It may be a tall ask. Parry may well be a married name. Has Welsh connections possibly, but then that could be similar to the name Ellis and placename Chirk on the Denbigh/Shropshire border. I've just come across a Joseph Ellis marriage to a Mary LLoyd in Trefnant, Denbighshire about an hour away from Chirk. Will look further tomorrow. How's your hunt going ?
