Having rechecked the birth and marriage certs, the mother of Jos Ch B Ellis is listed as Mary Ellis (Formerly Ross) and father as Joseph Ellis. It is the marriage cert that has the full name of Mary Jane Ross recorded. I have found in 1841 records, an Andrew Ross, Overseer in Cotton Factory with a daughter Mary born 1839 living in Scotland. The marriage cert has Andrew Lyle Ross, Foreman to a Cotton Factory noted as father to Mary Jane Ross. Co-incidence ?? The Welsh marriage between Joseph Ellis and Mary Lloyd has turned out to be a red-herring so I will not be pursuing that line. Still need to locate Samuel Ellis and both Mr & Mrs Joe Ellis on 1861 census, given that they were married in 1855. When all this is said and done, still need to know why Joe Ellis is recorded as coming form Chirk in 1871 census. Well, one step at a time I suppose.
