I had seen the 1841 census with all the family. It's possible that Joseph joined the Merchant Navy. I came across 3 records for a Joseph Ellis but don't know how to verify which Jo Ellis they refer to. Also, the marriage cert in 1855 states his profession was a Steward on a vessel. Liverpool was a big seaport, so I'm guessing by 1851 he had headed out in that direction from Yorkshire. My biggest niggle is the placename Chirk. I wouldn't have thought a Yorkshireman, living in Liverpool, would claim to be from Wales ! What I have found is a Mary LLoyd marrying a Joseph Ellis in Denbighshire in 1862 This marriage date ties in better with the son's birth in 1865, Maybe that's why I cann't find a Liverpool birth. I'm going to buy the cert and see what info it reveals, not unless you know how to check it out online. It was at Trefnant, Denbighshire 4/10/1862 Thanks, Karen Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
