Am enjoying these stories. Here’s mine............ My Mom was born in Wigan; came to Canada, age 11, along with her brothers and parents. She never saw her cousins/aunts/uncles/grandparents again, except for one aunt who braved the high seas and came to visit once in the 1950s. But, there were many many letters from England through the years. Mom was particularly close to one cousin (who I shall name “Susie” so as to not hurt any one’s feelings). When I was young, Mom used to tell me over and over about poor Cousin "Susie” who was “left standing at the altar” ; never recovered from the pain of that ; hence never married or had children. Imagine my surprise (after Mom had died) when sorting through all the papers and letters, only to find one from my Uncle (WWII Canadian forces) who visited Wigan on leave, after being posted to Holland for a time. In the letter to my Mom from her brother, he says “Imagine our “Susie” taking off like that with a married man! ! !” So, sometimes one never knows the whole story, I think. Barb, Ontario, Canada.
