Have come to a brick wall with my maternal gt gt grandparents. Joseph D Ellis, s/o Samuel, a clothier and Mary Jane Ross, d/o Andrew Lyle Ross, a foreman in a factory married at LIVERPOOL Presbyterian Church.Their ages are unconfirmed but believed to be born around 1830-1840. Have birth certificate of only child (my gt gf,) Joseph Charles Braithwaite Ellis born 1864 Liverpool which seems odd having been married for 9 years. Perhaps father was away at sea/war/prison ?? I did come across some Merchant Seaman's records for the 1850's, but don't know how to confirm if they belong to my ancestor or not.
