Hi Everyone I thought I would do a little more hunting for my Britcliffe/Briercliffe family who were in the Rochdale, Salford and Manchester areas. I'm trying to find my Mary Britcliffe/Briercliffe on the 1841 Census. She was born in Rochdale in 1828 (Smallbridge) 1844 MARY Britcliffes first recorded conviction which lead to 6 months gaol in Salford??New Bailey prison. This conviction appears in the Manchester Times and Gazzette on September 14, 1844 her name spelt Mary BIRTCLIFFE for stealing potatoes the property of John Taylor. On Ancestry this is recorded as receiving stolen goods?? (Aged 18). The below is Mary's mother and sister and she is not living with them from what I can see. 1841 Census at 7 Cumberland St.Manchester (near Deansgate) one Hannah BRICLIFFE age 30/35 living with Elizabeth, Hannah was a Clear Starcher who was born in the county living with 6 other people HO 107/569/2 Mary's father John Britcliffe/Briercliffe cannot be located deceased or living anywhere that I could find after 1833 which is the birth of Mary's last sibling Charlotte in 1833. 1854 Hannah Briercliffe dies age 47 years widow of John Briercliffe Carter living at 15 Evan Street Salford, James Briercliffe present at the death. If anyone can offer any suggestions as to how I can find a death for John Briercliffe (there is one that is the Grandson of Hannah recorded). death dec qtr 1854 Hannah Briercliffe Salford 8d 58 death sep qtr 1859 John Briercliffe Salford 8d 52 If anyone can find Mary recorded anywhere on the 1841 Census or working in a Factory, that would be great. It has been suggested on Mary's indent that she was "On the Town" whether that's true or not I don't know. I cannot find any children born to her though. Anyway any help much appreciated. Kindest regards Dianna from Oz
Its possible you have the following Rochdale records St Chads. But I didnt want to scrap them with out you seeing them. Looks like they moved back to Smallbridge around 1833.Maybe he died in that area? Cheers Mike Morris Toronto Canada Baptism: 6 Aug 1826 St Chad, Rochdale, Lancs.
