Hello All, I have a copy of a Will of WILLIAM BARNES of Oakenshaw dated 1866 in which his only surviving daughter ELLEN BARNES of Church Lancs. is the wife of WILLIAM CRAWSHAW, Printer. I found a Marriage on OPC for them as William Birtwistle and Ellen Barnes in 1828 thereafter in 1841 three sons and a daughter are found in 1841 Census with surname BIRTWISTLE. The children are Baptised and found on OPC as BIRTWISTLE except the youngest Haworth Crawshaw 1841. By 1851 and until the Death of William in 1888 the surname reverts to CRAWSHAW. The eldest son is PHILIP/PHILLIP CRAWSHAW born about 1830 Accrington Lancashire. His MARRIAGE is to ANN NUTTALL 24 January 1852 St. Peters Burnley. Bachelor and Spinster. Father names William Crawshaw, Printer. Following are their three sons VINCENT ARTHUR 1853, THOMAS 1855 AND CHARLES W. 1857 all born Blackburn Lancashire. By 1861 census Ann Crawshaw is living with her brother Thomas Nuttall in Burnley, stating married and with her sons. Thereafter she is calling herself a Widow. However in said Will of WILLIAM BARNES the exception is noted of a share of his estate to other Grandson Philip Crawshaw, which share to be paid to his wife towards the maintenance and support of her infant children etc. So by this time Philip has blotted his copybook and gone So where does Philip go?? I cannot find him deceased in England or remarried in England, but there is mention on some Ancestry Family Trees of a Philip Birtwistle Crawshaw living a full life in the US stating arrived there around 1859. There appear to be no instances of proof to this Claim, except his Obit. And MI in Denver Colorado, which gives a slightly different age and born Preston Lancs. And no mention of a previous life in the UK or parents!!! Would anyone be able to help resolve my dilemma .? TIA, Robyn Australia
