The company was (I think) Matthew Steele & Co, or Matthew Steele & Son. Perhaps there was a change in name at some point when junior joined the firm. The grandson, Dr. Matthew Steele, was later in the soap business in Runcorn (1870's), so I had wondered if there was family business running somewhere that I hadn't uncovered. I believe junior was born 1799, and senior was running a soap business at that time in Ireland, so I think you're on the right track there.
