Hi Mary, This does still happen today! My older sister has mother's maiden name of Tattersall, my next older sister and myself has mother's maiden name of Honey and my younger brother has maiden name of Tattersall formally Honey. The oldest girl has surname of Honey, We younger ones used the surname Gregory. If you look on Lancsbmd site, I am on 3 times with 3 different surnames. It ain't half confusing. Pauline in Darwen
