    3. Can anyone help me please. I know from Lancashire BMD that Martha Annie Shaw married Frederick SCHOLES at St Silas in 1917. The church seems to have been built in Victorian times but it does not appear to have been listed in Lancashire OPC nor is it in the list of church on Ancestry's Lancashire Collection. Was it known as something else? Regards John Hanson Researcher, The Halsted Trust Website - www.halstedresearch.org.uk

    3. Hello John, I have only seen reference to St. Silas' Church, in Preston New Road, Blackburn....designed 1878 - building not started till 1894. First phase completed by 1898, without tower. Before the Church was built, services had been held from 1846 in a nearby Sunday School, then a school built in 1884-85. (Wikipedia). The tower was not added until 1913-14. No mention made of an earlier name.
