Hi Dianna, I found a family in Priest Hutton, Lancashire 1851 which includes Samuel Dowker married, Head, 61 yrs., Ag. Labourer, from Batham, Westmorland with wife Jane (61) born Warton, Lancs., children Dorothy 17 -House servant, Jane 12 and Ann 8 yrs. The latter two children born in Borwick, Lancashire. I also found a Samuel Dowker born about 1829 Beetham, Westmorland also living in Priest Hutton in 1861, married with children, Ag. Lab. and son of Samuel and Jane I believe. Thereafter 1861: Samuel Dowker Sr. Head, aged 71 yrs. Farm Lab., wife Jane 61? Yrs., born Lancashire and Jane E. Dowker Granddaughter, a few months born Caton, Lancashire. James DOWKER was born c 1823/24 in BEETHAM/BATHAM Westmoreland fathers name is Samuel and possibly mum is JANE? James Dowker came to Australia (Queensland) on board the Waroonga in 1887 aged 63. Also both his sons Samuel and James came here as well the same year with their families on the Chyebassa and Roma ships. Both boys seem to be miners! James died in Queensland in 1900 and I’m hoping to find out anymore on his parents deaths/marriage births etc. Any help is very much appreciated.
