Hello Dianne, There is a John BRIERCLIFFE convicted at Lincoln for manslaughter in 1843. I know it's not Manchester area, but you haven't found him there have you? He was sentenced to 10 years and was sent to the Hulk Warrior in the Thames. He languished there until 1848 when he was pardoned. There is also a J BRIERCLIFFE in the electoral roll for Greenwood Street, Manchester Township in 1835.
