    3. I think we all need to take a rational look at the situation. Just because Ancestry are not going to support FTM does mean that we all have to go out and buy new software, if you have version of FTM that you are happy with, that you have used for many years, then nothing has changed - keep with what you have! Yes, you may not be able to sync with the Ancestry website in future, but this will probably be the case if you change your software. If you upgrade your operating system (OS) or change your computer your existing software will probably run OK, if not you can probably set the system to run the program with previous versions of the OS. Someone said about using another program because they "had used it for 30 years," but there is nothing to prevent any other company from ceasing software as Ancestry are doing so you may not be any better off by changing. By far the greatest risk to your data is failure of your hard drive in your computer, if you do not back up frequently to external flash memory / drive / CD, etc., and your HD fails - you will lose everything (no your local computer store or the wizard next door will not be able to get it back for you!!). So back up frequently and keep your original set up discs and you should be OK.

    3. Well put, Phil. :) In any case it seems to me that Ancestry have an issue with Microsoft's new '10' version (which does not use Java) It's a standoff. Not the only one's either, I suspect. But all will settle eventually. In the meantime we can all use the/our existing (if any) tree software that we have paid for. Their loss, not ours.
