    3. BIGAMY BY A WOMAN. – At the Oldham Police-court, SOPHIA ALLCOCK, a middle-aged woman, was charged with feloniously intermarrying with RICHARD GREENWOOD, on the 10th of June this year, at Christ Church, Oldham, her husband, JOHN ALLCOCK, being then alive, to whom she had been married on the 26th of February, 1872, at the parish church at Heaton Norris. It appeared that the prisoner had been married 20 years ago to a person named PORTINGTON, who died, and she subsequently married ALLCOCK. It was stated in the defence that she led an unhappy life with the latter, and a separation took place on ALLCOCK disclosing that he had another wife and several children. He stated that the marriage ceremony that had taken place between him and the prisoner was not binding when he left her, and under that impression she afterwards married GREENWOOD. The prisoner was committed for trial to the Manchester Assizes, bail being accepted.
