TEACHING A CHILD TO STEAL MARY QUINN, a middle-aged woman, has been charged with stealing a piece of beef from the shop of a butcher in Watson-street, Liverpool. The prisoner with her child paid a visit to the shop, and while the assistant was engaged serving customers, she was observed to take up a piece of beef from the shop window and give it to her child, a girl about seven years of age, and tell her to run away with it. The woman was followed and given into custody. The beef weighed 5-1/4 lbs., and was worth 3s. 11-1/2 d. It was stated that the prisoner had been guilty in other shop robberies in a similar way. In defence the prisoner pleaded that she was drunk when she committed the theft. MR. PRESTON committed her for trial at the sessions.
