Mary Rendynles married William Heelis on the 4 Jan 1864 at Manchester Cathedral (Manchester, England, Marriages and Banns, 1754-1930 (Cathedral)) As the record is on Ancestry I have been able to look at the original document, the writing is very clear, the name is definitely spelt this way on the certificate. Mary has signed her name herself and it looks like she has also spelt it Rendynles. The document states that her father's name is George Rendynles - occupation Engraver. I can't find anyone else in the records with this surname. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. If you haven't visited it before it is census and family history data for anyone who had the surname HAWORTH, HOWARTH, HAYWORTH and all variants in Oswaldtwistle and Church in Lancs during the census years As usual please pass on any problems - I will try to rectify them. And yes I will switch back to the old version if necessary! (at least this is free....) Fiona Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. My grandmother Emily SAVAGE b. 1892 Ashton-in-Makerfield (parents Adolphus and Ada Jackson SAVAGE) is near the centre of the picture with an X. I am interested if anyone can tell me where this took place, was it a special day? I have never posted a photo before so I hope this is done correctly. Subject: My Lancashire mother My Lancashire mother is my grandmother, Mary (Marsden) Ascroft. She was born in Poolstock, Wigan, Lancashire, England about May 10, 1882, and died in Chicago, Cook, IL on January 23, 1931 at the young age of 48, alas, I never knew her. She married my grandfather, Richard Ascroft, in 1901 in Wigan before emigrating to the United States with her first two children. My mother tells me that her future father-in-law, William Ascroft was a lamplighter, lighting the gas street lamps in the evening. When she was a girl, she would go around behind him and blow them out after he lit them! I am unaware of any siblings Mary may have had. Her parents, William Marsden and Elizabeth Talbot also emigrated to the United States, Elizabeth caring for the younger children after Mary's passing before she died in 1937. Comments, questions and any genealogical information greatly appreciated. Barbara Scism, searching for Marsden, Ascroft, Turner, Talbot, Lowe, Hutchinson, Catterall. I have done DNA testing at 23andme.com

I am looking for info on Percy Metcalfe, a pro golfer in the Lancashire area in the 1940s. I believe he was married to Clara Lord. Both were born in the 1880s and lived in the Rochdale area. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Ron Lord
