I have been looking into it and I believe that there were 2 frank mawdesley's around at a similar time. The Frank I am looking into (my direct descendant) had to have been in australia in 1888 as i have since found an australian marriage cert which connects him to his father joseph mawdesley from lancashire. I am stumped though as I can not find him on any passenger records travelling from liverpool to australia. The oral history handed down by elderly relatives say he landed in Sydney NSW. Unfortunately the marriage cert I have found was registered in Melbourne Victoria. I can't find his grave, can't find how he got here......this man is a mystery!!!! To make matters worse, he went by 2 names (Horace and sometimes Frank) plus I have found an article claiming that he went missing for some time around 1897. He is the key piece missing in my puzzle. One of his daughters (Violet) and one of his son's (William Horace) are causing me similar grie! f. For Violet, no birth certificate, no death certificate, no grave. Only found one obituary from 1929 and one wedding cert to James Carr. 2 children Roma and Kathleen. I have found a birth certificate for William Horace, but no death, marriage or grave. However, when Joseph Mawdesley married Marie (25 Oct 1866 Sefton) he was recorded as a widower, so NOT his first marriage and not the mother of his children.. His father's name on the marriage cert. is Thomas (fits with Joseph born and baptised in 1816.) So next task is to find an earlier marriage for Joseph.
