To be honest, I'm a bit unsure, but I'll go with this info as it is the best I have and if I remember correctly naming conventions at the time would support young Matthias being named after his father - which i think, after doing some digging the other night - could be Matthias as well. So Martha's maiden name was Conway! I didn't see that on the 41 census though? So my guess is that the Elizabeth Conway is her mother, right? What about the Daniels? Maybe an uncle or step father? What does ms Conway mean? maiden surname is Conway? I'm a bit ignorant of some of the stuff on the census. So I would look for Martha Conway in London, as that was his mother and her (according to a census) birth place? I do apologize for both the delay and the ignorance. Not only has work been very busy but I've done a lot of work on all of this genealogy (in general) and it's beginning to blur together. Thanks to everyone for your help. I appreciate it! :) Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. If I'm understanding you correctly you're looking at Matthias Gray (in that info) as being the father? The Matthias I have, that I mentioned was born in 1828/1829, but it could be his father. Maybe? As far as the Margaret Gray...Market Street sounds familiar as that was a place they had shown up before, on the 1841 census i believe (Market Street/Deadsgate area). The birth year, if you subtract, is a bit off from where I calculated it from the 1841 census. In the census Margaret was listed as 70 (i believe), so it would be 7 years. If I assume that she would eventually turn 71 that year, then at the most she would be 78. Yet it says 80? Hm, could be. I'm honestly taking the ages on the census' with a grain of salt. Born 1828/1829 Actually I've seen it on his own correspondence, as well as death notices in news papers. Yeah, I've looked around for baptisms but I'm curious...I think they were Roman Catholic, would that have made a big difference? Matthias went to a boys school (Sedgely Park) which is a RC school for disadvantage kids, which makes sense as I found in the 51/61 uk census that his mom was a widow.
